I recall the small mountain behind school. I had a few days before the quarter began in September. Looked easy thought I'd hike to the top. Lots of rock slides that look doable from the bottom, but enormously difficult once there. Seemed I passed through a temperature zone going straight to the top. Also a fly zone. In the 1970's no one went up there, it was quiet and desolate at the top. It made me appreciate what life's solidarity for me had become. Read moreThis is only a 2.4 mile hike and can take less than 2 hours if you're fit but it's a lot of elevation gain pretty quick so be prepared for that. It's an amazing view of Salt Lake City and the whole valley, definitely worth it! It can be a little crowded, and the street is usually lined with cars parked to hike this trail, so be prepared to do a little extra walking if that's the case. I'd recommend doing this hike for the sunset, it is one of the busier times but it's that way for a reason, it's so gorgeous! I've also done this hike on the 4th and 24th of July to watch fireworks which were stunning views. Just bring a flashlight and take it slow coming back down if you're hiking back down...
Read moreDo what everyone says: go at sunset. The view is breathtaking. Bring a flashlight for the way back, water, and bug spray. If you go during the day, wear sunscreen and a hat. There’s very little shade at all. Trail is clear and easy to follow. Watch out for wildlife—we saw a couple rattlesnakes but they minded their business.
