Located on the Mission Reach portion of the SA River, it’s a nice park with lots of stuff to do! There are two baseball fields with small bleacher seating, a huge pool, a full court covered basketball court, outdoor workout equipment, a small playground, LOTS of open space for football, running around in circles, rolling around in the grass, standing on your head, or what have you. :)
Concrete picnic tables and BBQ grills – but not very many.
There are two parking lots – one on each side of the pool. It’s located about half a mile from Confluence Park and the Mission Reach connects the two. From the park, it’s a half a mile walk to the actual Mission Concepcion. While you are here, find your way to the edge of the park near the SA River and find the “Mission Portal” (it’s a round, stone tower as seen in the photos). From the top of the portal, you can see the top of Mission Concepcion if you look carefully. Steps on one side and an ADA ramp on the other side.
You can also head out further toward Mission San Jose – just a few more miles down the Mission Reach trail.
One last thing to check out while you are here. This site was where the first major skirmish of the Texas Revolution took place. The first Texan to die during the revolution died here, and he was the only one to die in this battle. There’s a monument near the pool house on the Theo Avenue side and it explains more about the Texan who died and the Battle...
Read moreThis park has always been an excellent place for me. I had never had a disappointing experience at this park. Sometimes, early in the morning, I come by to rest at the nearby water fountain. I love that the park has plenty of exercise equipment, is not under a shaded area, has various picnic areas, and has plenty of parking. My recent visit consisted of my church hosting a day at the park, and there were plenty of things to do at this park, especially for the kids who utilize the playground and others who utilize the baseball field and basketball court. Even those who utilize the river trails. Great place to...
Read moreI run here when I'm in town visiting parents. You can play sports and take small children. There's a short running trail around the park that I run if it's an evening run. Otherwise take the main trail since it's up 10 miles if I recall the trail directory bulletin information correctly. Sadly I don't run by myself during hours when there aren't many people on the trail as I become very afraid of danger since I'm a woman. I don't think I exaggerate when I say this. I'm also from Austin so it's never the same as running the trails around Lady Bird Lake, etc. but I...
