North Island Beach Cottages — Attraction in San Diego

So we stayed in unit 6. It was ok. I would rate a little lower but the proximity to the beach and easy access back and forth to and from the beach gets a higher rating. Here are the negatives 1st the couch is so extremely uncomfortable and old and so many stains. The dining room chairs also super stained. I’m not sure what some of the reviews mean by a fully stocked kitchen ours didn’t even have a cookie sheet. It did have plates and lots of glasses and silverware a pot and a skillet and knives. The beds are hard but i don’t mind a hard bed. The pillows are weird each one is different. So if you and supper picky about your pillows bring your own. If you are planning to stay for several days what is in your unit that is all that is provided so if you needed extra garbage bags or toilet paper you either wait for 4 days or buy your own. The walk to the beach from this unit is about 3-4 minutes. There is an outdoor shower to rinse off at each unit. The washer and dryer are a great bonus. And a full size fridge. Floors are tile all thru out so if you get cold bring socks or slippers. They do provide 6 beach towels and 6 camping chairs in this unit. There are grills right outside the unit. Also there is not much seating in the living room if the weather isn’t great or if you are just trying to chill there isn’t much seating. And there is only one bathroom maybe we are just spoiled cause we have multiple at home but it is difficult even with 4 people getting back from the beach and showers and such. Great place for a family get away! Tough to get reservations (started trying a year in advance), but so worth it! Nice facilities, amazing beach access! Free continental breakfast gets crowded, but was always plentiful and good. The cabins fit six comfortably (a queen, two twins and two on the couch pullout). Outdoor spaces for fires and BBQs. Right off the runway, so lots of naval aviation to watch (flying in low). We went for spring break, so swimming was a little cold in the ocean (the pool was a good temperature), but it was still great. Saw several pods of dolphins right off shore, found lots of sand dollars. We spent five days there and the family is begging to go...

The Beach Cottages were very convenient. There were plenty of amenities like the soaps. Though there were also utensils like forks, spoons and there were kitchen tools that were there to make what you want to if you got ingredients from the Commissary. Other than the smell that was obviously from how close the cottages were to the beach and we were bound to have sand inside the place, we weren’t disappointed. Very conveniently placed near the Navy Lodge so we were able to have access to the Ice dispenser and Breakfast when available. Very beautiful cottage!
