Easy hike with walk along the river (San Diego river is more of a stream). Nice views of surrounding mountains. There is a great oak tree along the part of the hike near the river, that is great fun for kids to climb on. Can start either at the visitor center, or at the trailhead. Most of the hike is open to the sun, while the part near the river has some some shade.

Great place to take photos! Easy to find as there is a stop light at the turn. There is plenty of parking. Not much of a walk at all either. I also walked the actual trail a bit with my family and wouldn't recommend it with small kids. Once you get into the trail, it becomes steep inclines. There's also no coverage from the sun, so make sure to bring the sun screen!

Great trail for walking. Beautiful nature and birds. I loved the sound of the river. There are benches for resting, but they are in direct sunlight, not in the shade. The trail is not very long. You can go hiking from it to the nearby mountains or to the old dam.

A perfect little hike that I did as an out and back from the overflow lot instead of a loop because I missed the turn for the loop. Very dog friendly; everyone stayed on leash (although many either did not pick up their dog waste or left their full poop bags on the trail). I would like to explore the other...
