Crikey! Gather 'round, mates, because what I'm about to tell you will make your blood boil and your head spin! I'm talking about a place that should be a wildlife sanctuary, a haven for learning and conservation. Still, it's a shadow of what it could beโa dilapidated, disappointing shadow. The zoo I'm speaking of has the potential to be a great destination where families can come and marvel at the wonders of the animal kingdom, but right now, it's failing miserably. Let me take you on a journey through this so-called zoo and explain why it's such a massive letdown. First off, let's talk about the enclosures. Many of them are closed! Yes, you heard me right. Closed! What's the point of having a zoo if the animals are nowhere to be seen? It's like going to a bakery and finding out they have no bread! Ridiculous! And for those that are open, they're in the middle of renovations. I get it, renovations are necessary, but crikey, could you time it any worse? Families are paying good money, expecting to see these majestic creatures, and what do they get? A bunch of construction zones! Take the grizzly bear enclosure, for example. The pond had no water in it. How should these magnificent beasts enjoy themselves without a proper water source? It's like throwing a crocodile into the outback without a billabong to swim in. It's downright cruel and shows a complete lack of care and respect for the animals. And don't get me started on the reptile house! I went in expecting to see a slithering anaconda, one of the most potent constrictors on the planet, and what did I find? Nothing! No anaconda in sight. No anaconda in sight. What a joke! It's like seeing a famous rock band and finding out the lead singer didn't show up. Talk about a letdown! Then there's Penguin Island. Or should I say, No-Penguin Island! There are no penguins there, mate! None! Can you believe it? Kids see these charming little creatures shuffling around, and instead, they get an empty enclosure. It's heartbreaking and infuriating. And what's the deal with those zoo boxes? You pay $5 for a key, expecting to unlock some educational content or fun facts about the animals, but most don't work! And the ones that do are only in Spanish. I'm all for multilingual education, but if you charge people for a service, make sure it works in multiple languages. It's just common sense! Parking? Don't even get me started. It's like a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie. All the signs have blown away, leaving you to guess where to park. The display on the turnstile is cracked, making it nearly impossible to read. It's a mess, an absolute mess! You have the animals, and that's where this place falls flat on its face. If they don't make serious updates, and I mean serious, this place is going to lose its charm completely. Otherwise, I'd recommend a visit to the Oakland Zoo instead. Nlet'sere's a place that knows how to treat its animals and visitors right. The zoo we're talking about is way too spread out. You find yourself walking and don't just see a handful of animals. And those that you do see? The grizzlies and the lions were probably the least terrible part, but that's not saying much when most enclosures are empty or under construction. No Polar Bears? No Cheetahs? What kind of zoo is this? I've seen better collections of animals at a roadside petting zoo! I thought the Oakland Zoo was slightly better, and that's not a high bar to clear. This place is that's at best, but certainly not spectacular. Sure, the weather was a plus, and the hippopotamus was a sight to see, but that's about it. The experience was one big disappointment after another. There are more empty enclosures than ones with animals in them. It's not that it's a fantastic location, and it is not an SF must-see. Over $50 for admission and parking to see a run-down park with half the exhibits closed is...

ย ย ย Read moreSo I was very excited about going with my family for the first time. I remember going a long time ago and enjoying it. This time, not so much. We bought our tickets in advance, however, we still had to go to a window to buy our parking ticket. I have to say the staff were all VERY NICE and VERY GOOD at what they do! They made me enjoy the park all the better. The problem I had was we went during a weekday and 80% of the Zoo was closed. Now I understand that animals are unpredictable, so the fact that the section we were so excited to visit had no Big Cats at all was disappointing but I get it. The giraffe and zebra habitat was phenomenal with multiple points to see the animals from various angles and locations. Itโs very awesome. The bears, wolves, penguins and giant ant eater were some of our favorites. A lot of places were closed off and some construction going on. Only 2 food places were open. My son was so excited to see the theater and it was closed. The insect zoom was literally a room and a few fish tanks in it. The Rain Forest Zone was beautiful but very small and not much to see inside. The monkeys were cool and you could see them easily. The place is huge and there are up and down hills, but mainly flat walking. Parking was $11 and since it was a Thursday, there were plenty of spots open right next to the entrance. The gift shop had a few nice things, all extremely overpriced of course. The drive to get there was very easy and easy to find right across from the beach. A lot of shaded areas to keep you cool which is nice cause the place is huge! Train ride for an additional $9.00 per person over 2 years of age was fun but very short. Just a very quick oval track that you go around twice so you get to see the same view again in case you missed it the first time. Or wave to same people that got so excited to see you the first time and not as much the second! My oldest, 14, loved it, youngest, 2, not so much. He was done before the ride started which took a long time waiting while the train filled up. Which I couldnโt understand since the entire 2 trip took about 8 minutes to complete so the late comers could have just been the early arrivers for the next ride. Instead we sat and waited for the ride to start longer than the ride itself. The 104 year old carousal is beautiful and so fantastic itโs still running after all these years. What gives it even more character is the paint falling off on certain places and not being updated is great to me. You can see, feel and hear its age! Overall I really wanted to be happy and excited and give it 5 stars but with everything closed and so many exhibits closed, I had to go with just a 2 star rating and tell everyone just...
