After having just walked through Golden Gate Park and wanting to get to the Cliff House, I thought that waling taking a walk on Ocean Beach would be the best way to get there, and I wasn't disappointed! Ocean Beach is located directly across the street from Golden Gate Park and beach the beach is so wide, it takes a few minutes to get all the way down to the water, but it's worth it. The walk from Golden Gate Park to the Cliff House is about 20 minutes, and along the way, you get views of Sutro Heights Park on the right, and the ocean to the left, and the Cliff House in the distance straight ahead. Though the temperature was in the 60s, that didn't stop at least I would say thirty surfers from surfing in the pretty large waves. A great way to view all the surfers is by going up to the Cliff House where you get a "a birds eye view" of all the surfers. The water wasn't horribly cold, so if I was wearing better beach clothes, I probably would have gone in the water up to my knees, which is what other people were doing. Overall, Ocean Beach is a great way for one to get right up the Pacific Ocean and walking from Golden Gate Park to the Cliff House on Ocean Beach is highly recommended because it gives you three "only in San Francisco" experiences that are conveniently located near each other, and are...
Read moreHands down the best beach in northern cali. White sands for miles in all directions, the cliff of the Golden Gate to the north and nothing but sand and ocean to the south. If you could take Huntington beach or Newport beach in orange county and just move it to SF, this is what you would get. Only I would venture that the beach itself (Ocean Beach) is bigger and badder then both. The water may be frigid and most days covered in marine layer... but... on that sunny day... on that freaking sunny day. There is nothing like it. But set that aside. Its SF so dress a little warm, expect the marine layer and it will still sweep you away. I'm a So Cal kid, who is stuck in Nor Cal, however, this place offers me a giant slice of heaven, and I dont say...
Read moreHad a really good time until we returned to our car to find a young thug kid looking through our broken out rear windshield of our SUV smoking a joint saying someone just broke our window and stole things from our vehicle. The kid was in the process of taking some of our stuff for himself after the original gangster left with his loot. A very friendly couple video taped the criminals as they quickly broke out three different vehicles windows and stole property within seconds. Horrible experience as we were visiting from out of town. Ruined the end of a great day and sadly validated many opinions I received about San Francisco and the moral decay rapidly...
