For health reasons I decided to take up the earthy hobby of gardening. Unfortunately, one of my not so dwarf citrus trees died after many years and they helped me to confirm what I was denying. In search of a replacement in addition to other seeds, seedlings, companion plants, bee and butterfly attractants, etc... I came here.

In addition to letting me down easy... They helped me find the jasmine I was searching for and discussed the different varieties to help me determine what would be best in my garden. They have a Dutch Auction sale coming up that I am hoping to attend.

In addition to the variety of gardening goods... They have classes! They have family activities! With membership (free) most classes are free unless you need materials you will take home. I am trying to take my kids to the Create A Fairy Garden one but have to balance a Birthday month of activities. I am working up the courage to attend the Bonzai class and see if that can be resuscitated next... Good thing all my recent plantings seem to...

5 Stars – A Plant Lover’s Paradise!

Sloat Garden Center is hands down one of my favorite places to shop for plants and gardening supplies. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always ready to help, whether you're a seasoned gardener or just getting started. Their selection of healthy, vibrant plants is impressive—everything from native plants to exotic finds—and the layout of the store makes browsing a joy.

I especially appreciate how well-organized everything is. The signage is clear, the plants are well cared for, and they even label what’s good for sun or shade, which is super helpful. The pottery selection is gorgeous and unique, and I love their eco-conscious products and organic soil options.

Every time I visit, I leave inspired and excited to dig into my garden. It’s more than just a store—it’s an experience. Highly recommend for anyone who loves plants or wants to make their space greener!

Want to personalize this a bit based on your own visit...

There are SO MANY different kinds of plants here, and so many huge ones! It is actually like a jungle when you go inside. I am addicted to buying their self-watering planters, since they're a convenient size with a 4" potting area and a nice urn-shape that makes them easy to pick up. They come at a great price with lots of pretty colours. It's very intuitive to find the kinds of plants you want, and you can easily find new plants to love just by looking around. The staff are very helpful and always eager to answer questions. There's also all kinds of material for decoration and different growing styles. There's a whole shelf dedicated to terrariums. Another for seeds and bulbs. I like coming here for moss and stones too, and they have their own mixes of potting mix and soil organized by...

PRICE-GOUGING GALORE!!!! These extremely common houseplants are marked up AT LEAST 2x - 3x what they would normally cost at literally any other nursery or garden center (SF Flower Market has the same 10” Dracaena Lemon Lime for $30 even without their membership discount). On top of that, I’ve showed up at 4:48pm and 4:38pm on consecutive days and have been rejected. I understand social distancing and limiting customers, but there was literally no one in line either time. And your store currently does not close until 5pm. That means, you let paying customers in until 5pm. Sadly, so much for trying to support my local neighborhood small business. I’ll spend my time and money at Home Depot next time, where the same items are half the price and the customer service is actually customer-friendly.
