Flat Iron Mesa Park — Attraction in Sandy

Used to be a nice park, something has changed though. Don't know if it city funding, laziness, or just plain neglect. The grass (other than the soccer fields) looks like it hasn't been mowed yet this season. Weeds are taking over the mulch areas between the trees. Big piles of playground wood chips dumped in the play area and just left for weeks not being spread out. They put in exercise stations a couple years ago but still have not cleaned up the messy chunks of concrete or replaced the grass around the areas they dug up. Several times I've noticed homeless in the parking lot in run down motor homes or trashy vans. The park sits between a struggling neighborhood to the south and west and an upscale neighborhood on the north and east. Looks like the park is joining the defeated...

Great park with a huge hill! Baseball fields in the lower section and soccer fields up top. Playgrounds and pavilions on each level as well. Equipment is outdated. There is an asphalt path that goes around the entire park, with an option to stay on the upper level only. 3/26/22 they got a new jungle gym 2020 and it's really fun! They put in pickleball courts but as of last fall there were no nets. Biggest issue is parking on Saturday during soccer and baseball. All the lots are full, many cars parked illegally making it difficult for traffic to flow. I've already reviewed this park but Google is asking me to review it again. This is an awesome park. In fact, I would have to say it's my favorite. It's ginormous, for one thing, and there's an upper and a lower level separated by a very steep hill which is great for power walking (they fence it off in the winter so people can't go sledding). It has two . . . gazebos? . . . , tennis courts, soccer fields, baseball fields, two playgrounds for the kids, two restrooms, and a ginormous water tank, which is currently being replaced (check out my pics!). It's a great place to take your dogs; just make sure to clean up after them....
