Kara Karaoke — Attraction in Santa Monica

I am writing this review because first and foremost I want to say that I love Kara Karaoke! Kara was the epitome of professionalism, verve, cheerfulness, and a can do attitude throughout the entire process of working with her.

I hired Kara Karaoke to do my wedding, which was an intimate affair in the backyard of my parent’s cabin. It was sort of a Midsummer Night’s Dream kind of thing with dinner and dancing overlooking the lake, with a retro-70s theme, mismatched old timey décor, pixie lights, fireworks, a gourmet pizza truck we had come out from the city, campfire songs, and of course karaoke! The location was remote, outdoors, hard to get to, and worse yet the forecast called for rain. Not only did Kara and her assistant travel to the cabin, but also were totally cool with staying overnight in a cabin nearby that we provided. She also lugged all her gear and was beyond supportive when I was freaking out all day that the event would be ruined by the rain, which had been coming down hard since the morning. She set up in the rain and provided all the mics and brought her state of the art sound system, which we staged under a tent.

I should also mention that I had a special karaoke request, i.e.: I wanted to sing my first dance song to my wife (Stevie’s Wonder’s "Knocks Me Off My Feet") while we danced. I also wanted a whole host of my best friends, all amazing singers, to sing the father/daughter and mother/son dances, and many other numbers. I also wanted to finish off the karaoke section with my own rendition of "Welcome to the Jungle" to take everything up a notch before the fireworks! Kara was so great that she sent me and all of my friends practice tracks via email and even a transposed a track of "Heat Wave" for my mother-in-law to sing on the evening. Kara and her assistant also sang an amazing rendition of "Africa" by Toto, which you should totally ask her to do at your event! I should also mention that I was very apprehensive about having karaoke at all because my extended family are all farmers and quite reserved, and I was worried that they wouldn’t understand something so untraditional (in their eyes) as karaoke at a wedding. But Kara assured me that she had done this kind of thing many times, for all kinds of different couples and that everything would be fine.

In the end, the rain let up (as Kara had promised me it would), the sun came out and set over the lake majestically as we ate dinner and danced, and the night went off without a hitch. And more than that, my extended family had the time of their lives and danced the whole night away. Kara facilitated all of it seamlessly as we moved from pre-ceremony, to ceremony, to cocktails, to dinner, to speeches, karaoke, and fireworks. And in the campfire section, Kara gave us an amazing rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart", which her assistant played on ukulele to go along with all the tried and true guitar songs that our family plays at every occasion we have. It was a really nice, new addition.

Lastly, at my request, Kara stuck around the next day and did what I coined daytime “Hung-over Karaoke” with my family by the lake. She even coaxed some of my more shy family members to get up and give it all they had on the mic. It was an amazing 2 days that I know my wife and I will never forget.

All-in-all, I cannot recommend Kara Karaoke highly enough. She will make your event amazing and special and one-of-a-kind. She WAY, WAY exceeded my expectations and her commitment and professionalism are boundless. She is the best ever and I truly cannot say enough nice things about her.

Fantastic. Exceeded our hopes and wishes. We found Kara on short notice and I can't use enough positive adjectives to describe our experience. The first thing I found was she was quick to respond to questions. Next I got the feeling that she was confident about what she could bring to our birthday event. Which I appreciate, she’s a pro and knows what you need before you do and is prepared for all requests. We really were hoping to have someone who could take her part of the night and be responsible for it and Kara was.

The day of the party I was so impressed when she proved to be low maintenance and resourceful and focused on our party goers having a great time. I didn't think we needed an MC and was worried that someone could infuse too much of themselves in the night but Kara knew exactly the right tone. She kept our night moving with a light touch, helped people find songs, help them find the lyrics mid song (people were getting a little fuzzy as the night grew later) helped coral people for cake, etc. Her book of songs was dizzying and she had everything our crowd wanted - including fun props.

I could go on but I am hoping someone will find this useful so short and sweet - Hire her you won't regret it. I actually hope I get the chance to work with...

My 7 year old daughter and her best friend did a zoom meeting with Kara for a story-writing session. They LOVED it! Kara is extremely outgoing and friendly and was able to draw both girls (who are pretty shy!) out of their shells to create a very imaginative story. My daughter is currently obsessed with The Descendants on Disney, so she was pumped to create a story that used those songs. She also changed her mind about what songs she wanted to use a few times during the session (as 7 year olds do!) and Kara was great about thinking on the fly and shifting gears. I have 3 small kids, so it was so nice for me as a parent to actually walk away and take a brain break, knowing my daughter was actively engaged and having fun. I was amazed that Kara was able to create a cohesive story out of their ideas, which she emailed me only a few hours later. I love that the girls will have this story for posterity. Such a cute idea. We as parents need more things like this!! ...
