Hidden Gem for Nature Enthusiasts and Photographers!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our recent visit to the Okaloosa Area in the Gulf Islands National Seashore left us utterly captivated! As full-time travelers, we're always on the lookout for hidden gems, and this place exceeded our expectations.
We explored the shore just a couple of days ago during the off-season, and let me tell you, it's an absolute paradise for nature enthusiasts and photographers. The quiet beauty of the beach during this time is a refreshing break from the bustling Gulf of Mexico beaches just beyond the dunes across the highway.
The low tide revealed a serene stretch of sand that stands in stark contrast to the touristy hustle of more popular beach areas. It's the perfect canvas for those seeking tranquility and a deeper connection with nature. The ample parking, picnic facilities, and clean bathrooms make it a welcoming haven for anyone looking to unwind.
For us, as nature photographers, the off-season proved to be a goldmine. The symphony of seabirds, including seagulls, pelicans, and sandpipers, provided an enchanting soundtrack to our leisurely stroll along the shoreline. Despite missing a close encounter with an elusive American Bald Eagle, the thrill of the chase and the distant photoshoot with an Osprey added a layer of excitement to our adventure.
The avian drama among the Sandpipers, with one vigilant member guarding a piece of fish, was a spectacle that unfolded right before our eyes. The competitive atmosphere and intricate details of avian society were mesmerizing. And, believe it or not, we even witnessed a manta shrimp gliding through the water, unnoticed by the feathery actors engrossed in their food scuffle.
A highlight was the unexpected encounter with a horseshoe crab, its prehistoric form washed ashore. Even in its lifeless state, it evoked awe and served as a tangible link to the ancient origins of the sea.
As full-time travelers, we're always on the lookout for unique experiences, and the Okaloosa Area delivered in every aspect. The golden hues of the setting sun casting reflections across the water added a magical touch to an already enchanting day.
Whether you're a nature lover, photographer, or just someone seeking a quiet escape, the Okaloosa Area is a must-visit. We're excited to continue our journey along the circumference of Florida and the eastern seaboard, and we can't wait to share more discoveries with you. Follow our adventures!

Read moreNice place all in all. It was a fun place to go to with my seahorse dog and my wife and toddler. I played harmonica on the beach and had a really fun time doing so. My toddler loved eating the fried pickles from the old man in the van labelled "fried picels". She did get sick after eating them, though. Oh well, it was a fun time nonetheless. My wife said she loved the atmosphere, especially the constant sound of screams and feeling of unease, we seek that stuff. My seahorse dog was pretty content the entire time... well other than when that girl scout ran up to him and scratched behind his ears. He definitely didn't like that at all... Oh well, it...
Read moreWonderful area except for the traffic. I have mobility issues and have to use a beach wheelchair. Had to use a trailer to travel with it. The ranger there was awesome. Tried to visit the National Seashore closer to Pensacola Beach and the Rangers were very rude and wouldn't let me use my beach wheelchair said it was against policy. Even though that was the only way I could enjoy the beach due to my mobility issues. The Okoloosa area Ranger didn't understand why they would do that because it had to do with...
