Formed around 2010 by a Florida retiree, Siesta Key Rum is now a nationally recognized distillery. Mags like Go Rum, Caribbean Journal, and Wine Enthusiast are all enthused. After being assured by Caribbean Journal that no brewers have ever won 2 years in a row (so don't bother submitting anything), they went on to win 6 years in a row.
Silver was their first variety. They set up a folding table at a Miami competition, right across from Bacardi, and Bacardi was running a circus: Dancers, extravaganzas, samples, and giveaways. Siesta Key Rum won. They branched out into spiced rum and now have flavors like coffee and toasted coconut which are their next most popular ones. They dedicate tour time to going over their ingredients. They use real ingredients and do not chemically enhance their flavors or alcohol content, unlike most other manufacturers.
Besides rum, their gift shop includes natural soy candles poured into glass holders made from recycled glass from the tasting room. They have insulated travel cups, silicone travel tumblers and shot glasses and scrumptious looking Rum cake.
They put out limited release flavors. Many of them are from passing barrels back and forth with beer manufacturers, so the oak takes on a unique flavor of its own.
The tour is free and starts in the tasting room and ends in the “infinity“ room, though we headed back to the tasting room to purchase some items. Kevin took...
Read moreThis place is OVER THE TOP amazing!!! We had friends down from St Pete this weekend and since we have never been, we decided it would be a great weekend stop. This place blew us away with the quality and taste of the rums as well as the employees who you will want to befriend. We started out with little tastings (after they checked 100% of everyone's id, regardless of age! Very nice!!) and then moved on to the little tiki bar in the back where we each purchased the most amazing cocktails to sip on while we enjoyed the tour. The tour is basically high top tables where you have 3 different employees describe the history, the process of making the rum and the speciality rums they make. Afterwards, we visited the little bar again and bought rum to take home.
We all loved the shaken Pina Colada and purchased the toasted coconut rum to take home. Once you taste the natural flavors, it is no wonder they have won so many awards with it.
Our bottle that was purchased on Saturday afternoon is almost gone. We just made a pitcher of the shaken Pina Colada (recipe on their website) and may get another bottle to make a pitcher for a pool party this coming weekend. We are in love with this place and now understand why they say "the regulars come in." We will be the new "regulars!" Thank you for an amazing...
Read moreI visited this place and it was cool to see the place and check it out. The staff was very nice but the guy in the tasting room, I think his name was Kevin, kept bragging about how drunk he was from all the quality control he does. It was funny at first but he kept going on and on about it that it became pretty annoying. They also mentioned a tour that was about to start so we stayed for the tour and I was expecting like an actual tour of the distillery but that’s not at all what it was. We just sat around listening to the drunk employee talk about the history of the distillery. Towards the end he asked if we had any questions about the tour so far and I was pretty tempted to ask when the tour starts. The coffee rum is also the worst rum I’ve ever had, I’m not sure why they still sell it. During the “tour” there was about 20 people and the drunk employee asked who’s tried the coffee rum and almost everyone raised their hands and he asked how many liked it and not a single person raised their hand saying they liked it. The rum cake is also disgusting, I bought some and took one bite and threw the rest away. The toasted coconut rum is delicious and its great in...
