I have bought and sold silver bullion, currency, and old coins here and I can honestly say this is the best store in Boston. Mike and Peter are very nice and helpful and their store is a relaxing and inviting atmosphere--lots of fun stuff to look at. Mike, in particular, is always happy to show you whatever recent coins or collectibles he's acquired, and you can look at anything you want.
MORE IMPORTANTLY--they treat you fairly here. Case in point, I know other coin dealers who will offer to buy your American Eagle silver dollar for $15 (spot price is ~$20 as of this writing)...however, call them again and they'll offer to sell you that same coin for $25 or so. That's a 67% markup, which is a straight-up ripoff. On the other hand, Mike and Peter will sell the same coin to you at a MUCH FAIRER MARGIN (maybe a 10% markup, not 67%).
Finally, you're treated like a human being. I bought some British pounds (don't ask why...it was a dumb idea) from Mike and changed my mind about them a few days later. Mike was happy to let me buy something else with them, without taking a penny in mark-up or transaction costs. I can't imagine another shop in Boston that would be willing to do this.
Don't let my ranting about other stores, however, distract you from the fact that Kenmore Collectibles is a truly wonderful store to visit. I would recommend...
Read moreI highly recommend Kenmore Collectibles if you are seeking a buyer and/or consignor of sports and non-sports cards and collectibles. About 10 months ago, Peter provided me with a consultation and a blueprint for a strategy to maximize the sale of my approximately 1,500 sports cards, which are mostly from 1958 through the early 1970's. While my collection has yielded no "grand slam" or headline-generating sales, Kenmore is maximizing return on investment through its highly effective sales and marketing approach. To start Peter recommended the PSA grading of 75 cards (Kenmore is an authorized PSA dealer), which took 1-2 months and was well worth it. Most of these 75 PSA-graded cards are now sold. On cards not PSA graded Kenmore has a keen ability to create the greatest value and buyer interest based on his years of experience. And finally, I have found Kenmore (and Peter) to be very honest and of strong character, and he has delivered on his representations and promises. I highly recommend Kenmore Collectibles to both...
Read moreThe man who owns this place backed out of a deal he made with me over the phone. He lowballed me on what he said he would buy from me anyways but he told me i could stop by the shop anytime for our deal but once i called back he said he was “going to have to pass” on the prearranged deal. I then proceeded to thank him for his time and energy and he hackled at me somewhat over the phone and said “ha yeah thanks” and very rudely hung up the phone on me. Poor business. He could tell that im definitely younger than his age over the phone conversation and judged me based on that. He said i could stop by his shop “anytime” for the deal but when i called before stopping in he backed out. Not being a man of your word is a big deal. Also just because someone is younger than you doesn’t mean you automatically become rude and don’t treat the situation as if it wasn’t any other deal. A true gentlemen would at least give a proper goodbye back and not scoff at someone who was trying to do business over sealed product. Very...
