Learn morePleasant and uncrowded, on the quiet side and even at low tide, not even close to being as wide as Daytona. No lifeguards at this one and rip currents-or undertows-are a real threat along Brevard's beaches! Interestingly, although the surf doesn't get very big and it's often even glassy, Brevard's beaches are where several world-class surfers learned their technique, including Slater who grew up a couple miles north in Cocoa Beach. The park's facilities are kept neat and clean, and there's a handy ramp to expedite your getting your wheels stuck in the soft sand. There's lots of shade and a couple of large pavilions you can reserve for cookouts. A small volleyball court was added recently. Parking is still free as of July 2023 but there's a rumor that may end.UPDATE:free parking did end and watch out! the sharks are out and they are booting-$80 fine. Last time I was there, when I returned to my car from the parking pass kiosk, there was already a big yellow warning sign on my window. I then got a free locals pass but they didn't give me a sticker, saying that they have my license tag in their system. Not reassuring. Lot often seems full, but if you just keep driving around the loop, you'll soon find a car backing out. Several major hotel brands include a Hilton, Crown Plaza, and Double Tree a couple miles south and several others just accross the bridge on mainland. Many small mom and pop motels, airnb's etc in the area. Many other free beach accesses with and without facilities nearby. Not much to see on this stretch of A1A since the beach from Satelite Beach down to Melbourne Beach is mostly obscured by condos and multi-story homes. One Winn-Dixie (UPDATE: Winn-Dixie has been bought by Aldi's which should open this spring 2025.) 4 Publixes, Walgreens, CVS are nearby on beachside. No Trader Joe's or Wholefoods, but there's a Costco about 30-45 minutes away in the town of Viera. Many good dining venues and watering holes of all sorts everywhere but you'll have to go to Orlando if you're looking for dazzling nightlife. Several walk-in medical clinics nearby if you get stung by jellyfish...
Read moreI have lived for over 22 years...NEVER have I paid for parking here. I had just finished moving all morning, and decided to go to the beach to relax. I pulled in the northern most entrance. I noticed the Club House on my left, turned to the right, saw the dumpster and the open parking space. I pulled in, grabbed my bag, and headed down to the beach. An hour and a half later, I came up, saw a green boot on my car, and looked around. Then I saw blue signs 4 spots down. I went over to read them. It was then I realized there was a parking fee. No parking meters, no signs at each spot, just a boot that cost me $83. $10 for a whole day's rental, $70 for the boot, and a $3 service charge. When I called, it was a third party. They told me I could call and file a complaint with the city. When I did, the office was closed. They then wanted me to load the boot into a bin. Mind you, it is solid steel. I called, and someone did it for me.
I will not be going back. There are plenty of other nice beaches along the coast. It was very disappointing. Sorry, City of Satellite Beach, poorly done....
