Doubles Beachside 1612 Hwy. A1A Satellite Beach, FL 32937

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. When they first opened back in 1983, Doubles subs were the rage of Mel-Hi. These days, you would be considered a gudgeon if you went more than twice. The rating I gave it should probably be lower based on the items to be discussed. Perhaps nostalgia played a part in an extra star.

Claudia is our server today. I found her to be extremely charming and efficient. She was the highlight of the experience. I asked Claudia for one Smash Hoagie and one Cheesesteak. Before I even get into the review, I implore you to look at the pics! Just look at them!!!

First up was the Smash Hoagie. The bread was fresh and tasty, which is important in a sandwich, just as important as the filling. Speaking of which, I am fairly certain there is processed meat in there somewhere. On a personal safety note, NEVER eat the rainbow slime on Roast Beef or Grey Turkey. Ever. Other than that, it was a fine example of a Hoagie. Not.

Prodding the Cheesesteak with a fork first (checking for anything off-color), I determined all at least looked fine and so proceeded to chaw off a hunk. All in all, it wasn't a bad Cheesesteak, the bread was fresh, the meat not top shelf, but not from the dregs of the food service barrel either; however, the shrooms were definitely canned. Is it really all that difficult, time-consuming, and profitable eating to slice some fresh shrooms in the morning?

The Big Boy says, “Take your kids as they won't complain; otherwise, Don's Hoagies is 1000 times better than this below-average fare.”

PS I anticipate people screaming about how their experience was different and this is a local icon, neighborhood favorite...yadda yadda yadda....

I really miss the atmosphere of the original Doubles, the second location across the street, and/or even the newest location when it first opened. We went tonight and saw now you need to wait to be seated instead of walking up to order. You also have a server instead of self serving. There were no other customers inside or outside, just some at the bar outside on a Friday night. Zero using the splash pad. Completely dead. Part of the appeal of Doubles used to be the casual walk-up ordering and sitting where you want, plus the games and tvs. It used to have more of a sports bar feel with lots people and sports games on inside.

Even though we were the only ones in there, we were seated in the back by the bathrooms. One couple came in as we were leaving and they were told they could sit wherever they wanted, so there is no consistency with the seating. Lots of sections were roped off with caution tape and there were big drying fans on the floors. The tvs were cycling through the screensaver for Roku with nothing on. We had three different people waiting on us throughout the short dinner. No offer for refills. Just really disappointing. Please bring back the things that made Doubles so special in the first place! It...

What an unfortunate disappointment... We came in on Saturday evening just about 6:30pm and the place was nearly empty. We ordered only 10 chicken wings, requesting them to be extra crispy, with a side of fries. The order came out quick, not crispy one bit, but soft fatty chicken wings. We know not to send food back so we ate what was served to us. The sauce on the wings was good along with the fries but with the restaurant having little customers there, we did not understand why our order was not made correctly. Additionally, the restaurant closes, per the signs and online, at 9pm on a Saturday evening. By the time we were leaving, just about 7pm, the servers were clearing the tables and taking out the trash from the bins inside where their workstations are. We then could tell everyone was wanting to get done and leave early. We used to love Doubles when it was located on South Patrick but this may not be the same owners any longer. We wanted to give the new place a try and we were truly disappointed. We will not be returning nor recommending...

Newly reopened – Very nice – Good food We ate at this place when it was across the street and have been anxiously awaiting their new building and reopening. Every time that we drove by the location they were very busy. Stopped by yesterday and found a parking spot (last one). Yes, parking is limited and the restaurant is popular. The inside is beautiful. Light and airy with high ceilings and plugs with USB chargers by many tables inside. There is seating inside and out. There is a bar outside and seating (without any shade) outside. You order at the counter and wait for your name to be called. We ordered a cheeseburger and a burger/steak wrap with sweet potato fries. The food came out very quickly and was delicious. Prices were reasonable, the staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for people in the area to enjoy a good meal in a very pretty venue.

Thought I’d stop and grab a quick bite at the updated beloved doubles beachside. I was shocked to see it was almost totally empty inside on a Saturday afternoon. My shock turns to realization when my partner and I receive our food. Our waitress was very kind, welcoming, and attentive. We had ordered a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and a buffalo chicken wrap with a side of fries. My girlfriend’s sandwich was very soggy at the bottom and lacked flavor in the meat. My buffalo chicken wrap was lack luster as well and carries a very strong vinegar taste that over powered everything else inside the wrap. The fries themselves weren’t the worst I’ve had but they were overly crispy to the point where the potato inside is almost nonexistent. Needless to say I was disappointed in the food and it appears they don’t live up to the reputation they once carried at their old location.
