We reserved a 1:00 tour with dog sledding for yesterday, July 17 for my spouse and I. When we arrived at the check-in, over 45-min early, we were then advised the helo holds 3 passengers so we would have another flying with us....no problem. At 12:45, about, 2 more couples and a group of 3 showed up. Believe they were rescheduled from July 16th weather cancelled. The group of 3 were put onboard the first Helo at 12:55. We were then advised by the young girls running the show, that those of us who are waiting will have to split up for the to and from Helo ride as each bird holds 3 pax and they won't fly bird with only 2 pax. No one told us about this during booking nor is it stated on the website! The girls also said once we get to the Glacier we would be together for dog sled....WRONG! Upon arrival at Glacier, there were two, 3 passenger dog sleds. You guessed it, we were then again told as a group that one couple had to split up for the dog sledding. So, the awesome Helicopter ride experience and the awesome Dog Sledding experience were overshadowed by the lack of professionalism and consideration by this company and their employees. We came as a couple and came to share the experiences together..... disappointed 😠
July 20 Reply to Seward Helicopter Tours (owner). Thank you for taking time to read and reply to our review. We would have liked to have spoken to a "manager" if there was a manager there. All we encountered at your offices were young girls handling check-in, etc. When we were told we would have to split up for the ride to the glacier because there were now 3-couples, I told the lady coordinator that wasn't right. She said there was no other option as the helicopter handles 3 passenger and they won't fly with just 2. But, don't worry, we can ride sled together, we won't be split up. Not true. We were told as a group on the glacier we had to split up as the sleds were 3 passenger. What the heck is with all this 3-passenger stuff? You should advertise that everything is designed for parties of 3. We would have avoided the disappointment! Your manager should have a name tag so identifying. Don't you have any adults working there? All your employees seem to be first year, thus inexperienced. We spent a lot of money to experience a poorly managed, what we believe,...
Read moreIf you're going to spend the money on any one big experience during your Alaska trip, I would highly recommend you make it this one. From the wildlife you'll see, to the incredible views of building-size icebergs, glacier shelfs and ice fields - the Grand View Tour from Seward Helicopter Tours is one of the only ways you can experience Kenai Fjords up close.
We optioned to do a Glacier Landing on Calypso Glacier and we were not disappointed with that decision. This Glacier is high up in the mountains and certainly only accessible by air, so we were blown away when we landed and stepped out at the view.
After leaving the glacier, we circled icebergs the size of buildings (note the other helicopter hovering above the iceberg in my photo for size comparison), flew in front the Bear Glacier ice shelf, up and over the massive ice field leading to it and then carved through canyons seeing numerous waterfalls, rivers and wildlife (we saw sheep, seals and plenty of hikers).
The pilots are extremely knowledge, safe and professional. We had a group of six, so we were split between two helicopters of 3 + pilot. So everyone gets an incredible view! The pilots do a fantastic job of combining narration with wildlife spotting.
A word of caution, having done a few other helicopter tours in the past (in Hawaii and elsewhere) this one was definitely on the more "sporty" side in terms of maneuvering. You're not flying high above the canyons, your carving through them getting a view only the birds get to experience. It's unlike anything I've experienced, but if you're prone to motion sickness, you will likely want to take precautionary measures ahead of time. Don't let that put you off though, I have a hard time imagining any helicopter tour out there can top this experience. You...
Read moreJune 29,2021 Thank You Seward Helicopter Tours for an AMAZING 5 STAR experience! We arrived a bit early for our flight so we sat in the comfortable waiting area for our flight time. During our wait another family had been waiting for a couple of days for the weather to clear to fly up the to go Dog Sledding and unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. Everyone in the office was so kind and accommodating for that family and even though they did not get to the dogs, they did have an experience of a life time. I mention this because I was so impressed with their whole team who worked together and adjusted to make sure that everyone was number one safe, and number 1.a. had a great time. I don't usually write reviews, but Seward Helicopter Tours made a lasting impression on me. I will be going back for Bucket List #2 in the near future and Seward Helicopter Tours is #1 on that list. My Mother and I purchase The Grand View Tour and GRAND it was. From the moment we took off with our very experienced pilot I knew this was going to be an experience like no other! As we flew into the mountains, the sun peaked out and the views were absolutely spectacular and breath taking! The perspective from the air makes the enormity of the glaciers evident. The beauty is beyond comprehension. I have added a few of the pictures that I took on that flight, even as great as they might be, they still could never do the scenery justice. DO NOT MISS...
