Shawnee Mission Park - Shelter 2 — Attraction in Shawnee

Ive been coming to Shawnee Mission Park for 7 years and never knew this shelter and playground existed until recently. Its a nice little tucked away spot. Nearby there's a small lake, pirate playground, and open fields. The only downfall was the strrrong wind in this area. I had my daughters birthday here and it was so difficult to do anything. The decorations blew away, the trash blew away, basically everything blew away lol. I thought it was just a crazy windy day but there was no wind anywhere else I went the entire day and I went back on 2 separate times and I felt the wind. Nice shelter, off the beaten path but easily accessible, everything you need for a gathering is there, including a good sized fire pit. My only ding is about the large industrial dumpster. It's pretty obvious that the dumpster is being used to get rid of large household trash, ie mattresses. It's a shame that's the Park can't put up a game camera and catch some of these illegal dumps.
