This trail has a paved road that goes straight up then curves toward the Christmas tree at the top of Sign Hill. This moderate hike is about 1 mile to the peak, though some people will find the steepness difficult. Along the way, there are garbage cans (keep the hill clear of litter) and trail paths for other views of SSF. There's a small 7-car parking lot before the trail begins that usually has spots available. If you hike around April, you might see caterpillars everywhere so be careful where you step. They transform into butterflies around May/June. Wildlife and insects you might see depending on time of day and season: rabbits, owl, coyote, yellowtail butterflies, painted lady butterflies, checkerspot butterflies, and more. You might also see a variety of flowers, depending on the season. You'll probably see most flowers, insects and wildlife during spring.

Get ready for a steep hike haha! Yeah, it’s a really great spot, and you get a chance to see the South San Fransisco sign up really close. It’s actually not a sign (I used to think it was when I drove by it), but paint instead. Oh, and the view of San Bruno and the surrounding area is breathtaking. It’s the highest I’ve gone up in recent memory. Sitting on that bench feels triumphant after doing the full loop hike.

Beautiful trail and such a great view of South City. But be mindful that the trail entrance is at the parking lot at the intersection of Carnelian Road and Ridgeview Court. I wouldn't enter the Ridgeview housing complex. We were meeting up with some friends and they parked in there looking for a shortcut to the trail, and their cars were all ticketed and towed. Even though I told them not...
