There are several areas near Little Switzerland and Spruce Pine where the Parkway is still closed. Taking alternate routes were sketchy also because of the land slides in the area. The switchback curves were sometimes reduced to 1 lane and the repaired areas of 2 lanes were graveled. I drove close to the mountain (on the other side of the road) when I could because I was more comfortable not being on the graveled areas without guardrails.
