The best part about this meal was the view and the server Susan W. She was attentive and friendly offering suggestions and checking in frequently to see if we needed anything. The purpose of our trip was to try the Swiss Onion Soup. If you have read my other reviews you will see that French/Swiss onion soup is something that I will try at every restaurant that serves it. Starting with the soup review. The soup stock was weak and needed the cheese and onions to carry the flavor. There was too much butter in the stock as you can see by the close up photos of the top. I tried several tastings of just the stock even with a cleansed palate and it just never presented any definable good stock flavor. The soup had an appropriate amount of swiss cheese on top and had dark and light bread croutons which was a nice touch. I did have an issue with the onions. I have shared one of the photos of the ends of the onion. The onion was not prepared or sliced properly as there were the base pieces of the onion that would normally be trimmed (The root). The onions were cooked well. The final issue I had with the soup was the price point. 8 dollars per bowl is quite steep given the flavor, quality and quantity of the soup. This would have been acceptable at approximately 4 to 5 dollars. I will not order this again and give it a 2.5 out of 5 stars. The Ruben and Fries were well made with a generous amount of meat. The choice of meats were corned beef, pastrami or turkey. The meat shown in the photos is corned beef. While the Boars Head corned beef was flavorful the slice was on the thick side. A thinner slice would have enhanced the sandwiches feel and taste profile. A positive was the thousand island was served on the side instead of on the sandwich so you may add as much or as little as you desire. The thousand island dressing was more tart than most commercial brands I have tasted and appeared to be a house made dressing. It was well made and added a sharp bite to the sandwich. The fries were perfectly cooked however, they were nothing special. Just standard fast food style fries. A little seasoning would have made them stand out. The price point of the sandwich at 14 dollars is somewhat high. Given the location it is understandable, but I feel 10 to 12 would have been a more reasonable price. The outside of the restaurant is not well marked. To find it go to the right of the lobby entrance and then on the right you will see the entry door. The interior was well maintained and clean with great views of the mountains. I am struggling whether to give this a 3 or a 4 rating. For the rating, I will be kind and give it a 4. The only thing that raised it from 3 to 4 is the service and esthetics of the location...
Read moreMy visit to the Terrace at the Switzerland Inn was very disappointing. I had been so looking forward to this stop and the views are breathtaking. The weather was beautiful on the sunny day. I highly recommend stopping to take in the views but do not recommend dining here.
Only the Terrace Dining was open the day I was there but you'd think that would bring great views. I was seated against the hotel building and my view was of another building without turning my chair to the views. It was very slow there and there were plenty of open tables with amazing views. I never understand why restaurants put solo diners in the less than ideal tables. I should have changed tables or sat myself like other guests did.
I had read about the prime rib plate and although pricey at $42 decided to go with what they were known for. When my food was brought out I was told that they were out of the prime rib plate and that I was brought out the prime rib sandwich instead. What?
So if they were out of what I ordered why was I not informed after I ordered or asked what I would like to order instead? Then to bring another item with prime rib if they are out of prime rib doesn't make much sense. Then I overheard someone at another party ordering the prime rib plate and he was not told they were out of it.
So what likely happened was the waitress put my order in wrong and instead of correcting it came up with the lie to try to cover up her mistake. She was also supposed to check on me to see if I liked it but never did. When I did see her again I told her it wasn't good then she said that she was happy I liked it. That is not what I said at all. Dishonesty is not a good trait .
What I was brought was disgusting. I'm not sure what was worse, the soggy bread, thin pot roast that was flavorless, covered with cheese and onions. And they charged $24 for that sandwich. My side of mashed potatoes were cold. I'm not sure if they forgot to reheat them after taking them out of the refrigerator.
I will never dine at the Switzerland Inn again after the awful service and food. They don't value solo diners here.
The lack of respect is disappointing that they think it is ok to treat anyone this way. This restaurant needs to hire better waitstaff or properly train them so that they can put orders in correctly and if a mistake is made, he or she corrects the mistake rather than lie about it.
I do hope the restaurant can correct the issues with service as there is a lack of it and the quality and temperature of the food served needs...
Read moreWow where do I start. Arrived in the pouring rain and went into the pub entrance. Was told that they did not serve dinner in the pub just burgers and such. We would have to go to the restaurant side for regular dinner, but we have to go back outside due to a private party.
Went back out around the building, in the rain, into the restaurant. We were greeted at the door and told there was an hour+ wait, but we could go to the pub and be seated immediately. When I told the hostess that we didn't want pub food we were looking for dinner, she told us they serve both menus in the pub. She said she would meet us over there, but again due to the private party we would have to go back outside (it's still raining) into the pub.
We should have cut our losses then, but a back to the pub we went. We were meet there by the hostess (who apparently cut through the private party) and were seated.
After approximately 15-20 minutes our server arrived. We placed our orders and they brought our drinks. We were trying to give them credit due to the large party. After another 30-40 minutes our food arrived.
I ordered a chicken dish which was ok but the jalapeno grits were just terrible. Bland and over cooked. My wife ordered the duck. Apparently the duck is precooked and then fried before it is served. This duck was so over cooked it was petrified. Completely inedible, it was hard as a rock.
Our server did not return to refill drinks or ask if we needed anything. I had to flag her down. She asked if we needed anything else or just the check. I pointed out the overcooked duck and when she looked at it she apologized and said let me get the manager. She returned with the hostess who seated us who is apparently the assistant manager. She looked at the duck and apologized as well. As she was taking it back to the kitchen we told her we didn't want another plate, just the check.
She again apologized and and asked if we were sure we didn't want anything else and we assured her no.
The server came back and told us the manager was going to bring us the check, so we waited another 10 minutes and the manager arrived with check and she had removed my wife's dinner from it. She again apologized.
As I was we were getting up to leave we noticed another couple who were seated 15-20 minutes after we were getting up to leave. Apparently they never...
