Sadly my experience wasn’t as great as others. After reading reviews I wanted to be sure to stop, and recognizing was off-season & the pandemic I knew my chances would be slim to see the gift shop. Well, after a long day of driving my way back, this was going to be my last stop on Route 66 (having caught the rest of Illinois on way down). I arrived at 3:00pm on a Monday, & was so excited to see the lights on & someone inside. Instead of a warm greeting I was met with annoyance & “do you need something”. I explained I was driving Route 66 & before I could even finish I was cut off & the owner said “I’m closed” (there was another gentleman in the shop getting his title) - I tried to speak again saying I only wanted to look around & I was handed a business card & some generic travel brochure & told to take photos outside. After having nothing but hospitality & a shared love for travel from ALL of my other destinations along Route 66, this was a real let down. I only wanted a few minutes to browse & purchase a pin or magnet. My advice is call first to be sure you’re not “bothering” anyone, I certainly...
Read moreHenry’s Ra66it Ranch is one of my favorite stops along all of Historic Route 66 ... and Rich Henry is one of the most knowledgeable and kindest people I have met in my travels along 66. It is always a pleasure to stop at the Ra66it Ranch and Rich is always to engage in conversation about Route 66 and he also has a great selection of Route 66 souvenirs and Route 66 books. please be sure to check his website for hours and call ahead because as with many shop owners along old Route 66, they’re not there 24/7 and they are allowed to have a day off and many have second jobs so that they can keep the attraction open for you. Please don’t be a drive-by shooter, and stop in and chat with Rich and see what souvenirs he has to offer… You’ll be glad you did.. this goes for all Route 66 attractions, please don’t be just a drive-by shooter, taking pictures and not coming in. Go in, chat, see what they have to offer, and put a few bucks in their cash register say that they’ll be there and be open the next time that you travel Historic Route 66!! And get your Kicks...
Read moreI got up at 5:30 in the morning to go to Henry's Ra66it Ranch. 🐰When I got there, I was surprised to find that the rabbits inside were in rabbit cages that smelled very strongly of ammonia. They were not very well cleaned. Obviously the owner has good intentions with his rescues, but he does not seem to know very much about animal husbandry. The animals were however, healthy and obviously cared for. The store inside was very dusty, and most of the memorabilia had to do with Route 66, so if you were looking for more rabbit themes or VW themed items, just a heads up. 🐇🚗 I liked the rabbits themselves and found them very cute, but the store wasn't what I thought it would be. The one thing I was very happy to see was that the owner had all the rabbits separated by sex so there wouldn't be any unwanted little uns. This didn't stop the rabbits from loving each other- two of them were kissing and it was adorable! 🏳️🌈 All in all, it's worth it to stop and see the rabbits that are kept in pens outside during the day. They are very...
