This was my first time back to Tanglewood since 1988 to see Little Feat w/ Melissa Etheridge as the opening act. This night though, it was the venerable, Van Morrison of Bloomfield, Belfast, Northern Ireland. This was a sold out show and it certainly was crowded. The grounds are kept very nice as You would expect. I didn't much care for the parking lot that was just a long field with a long walk. Included in the long walk was a steep grade hill that, for anyone with certain health issues was daunting. I sat for a spell on a bench at the top before crossing street to enter. You will have to get there very early to get a good parking spot. I was 2 hours early and still had a mile to get in the shed . The best of the 'charms' was being able to bring in your own chairs, coolers, food and drinks. No major shakedown, no being treated like a inmate at a prison, no moronic rules to curtail your comfort to enjoy the show. I brought in a canvass shopping bag with 6 waters, and had extra clothing in as well. I also had a cross bag filled with personal items that would be flagged at any of the ridiculous livenations venues. Ridiculous is the only word that comes to mind(look at SPAC). So I can't praise this enough. On the other side of 'charm', is the trees that are part of the landscape and block the view to not only the stage but to the big vision screens as well. Outside of the few minor things, Tanglewood is a very good place to go to see a show. I'd go back for sure for the right...
Β Β Β Read moreI enjoyed the performance of "Prairie Home π‘ Companion" and the ease of finding my seat πͺ. The seat did not aggravate my "friend" Authur Itis and his brother Burt. The concept of the Koussevitzky Music πΆ Shed, not the Author "Two Sheds" Jackson, was commissioned in 1937 after a twice performance of Wagner by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra πͺ. Thunder βοΈ and rain π§οΈ caused delays even though the performance was in a huge tent βΊ. The shed's inauguration was in 1938 and was after Serge Koussevitzky, born July 26th, 1874 and passed away on June 4th, 1951, who music πΆ director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1924 to 1949. The shed was refurbished to improve the acoustics in 1959. I thought π€ the sound and lighting were good. Giant screens are inside and outside of the Music π΅ Shed. It is open on both sides. The only issues I had was that it can get hot π₯΅ under the roof. Fortunately, there was the occasional breeze and the temperature π‘οΈ decreased as the night π₯± went on. I was not π« allowed to bring my over the shoulder chair with me inside. I was able to leave it with security and I had no issues picking it up when I left. "A Prairie Home Companion" was entertaining but has become more political than when I last listened to the program over the radio π». I also do not remember swearing. It was interesting to see π how they perform the program. Teleprompters are used but improve does occur. If it was not such a long drive I would...
Β Β Β Read moreOne of our favorite if not most favorite places to go in the summer. For music lovers from classical to pops to jazz to folk, Tanglewood (the actual venue) offers first class concerts with performers and conductors from around the world and should not be missed. The setting is superb, The whole region is beautiful and charming and offers many cultural events and things to do in the summer. Some things stay open in the winter although concerts are offered at the BSO (Boston Symphony Orchestra) during other seasons. Tickets for Tanglewood can be purchased online. There are several concert "halls" there, an outdoor shed with protection from the elements, or one can purchase lawn tickets and enjoy picnics that you bring in or can purchase food on the premises. (Bring rain ponchos and umbrellas just in case). You can also attend rehearsals during certain days - these are fun as you get to see the conductor working with performers or students close up. There is a range of offerings though mostly classical during the middle of the summer with special pops, folk and jazz concerts at the beginning and end and of the season and sometimes around July 4th. Don't wait too long. Some of these sell out...
