Stonecrest Library, DeKalb County Public Library — Attraction in Stonecrest

I’ve been studying at this library for over two months without any issues. However, during my recent visit, I was immediately asked my age upon walking in, as I apparently looked like a minor. I’ve never been stopped at the entrance before when coming in to study, which made this interaction feel very inappropriate, especially since I was only inquiring about a study room.

When I asked why my ID was needed to confirm my age, and explained that I’m in my mid-30s, the staff member continued to disrespect and discriminate against me. Even after I told her that I no longer wanted the library card, she persisted with the age issue. Growing up in the Stonecrest area, I’ve never felt so uncomfortable or confused about why my age became a topic of concern in a library.

This is great library built a few years ago. It has clean well lit rest rooms, a fire place that is only lit during winter months. The library is large with a room for events, a children's area, a teenager lounge and book area, non-fiction, fiction, etc. and an area for DVDs to browse. The library does have computers you can use with a library card. This library has ample parking, and an outdoor pavilion. On 9/15/22. I walked in to Stonecrest Library. I was very broken ,nervous, and almost in tears. I looked at this smiling face and asked ,"can you help me?" I explained, she said 'sure'. In short, Joy was by my side the whole time assisting me with a very intense and lengthy application. It was completed in 1 hour and a $10,000.00 burden was lifted off my shoulders. Thank you Joy!!
