We traveled to see "Ruth" at the Star Theatre. We've seen almost all of the productions from Sight and Sound Theatre's over the course of many years. This production was most disappointing. We believe this is not a representation of them as a whole. The stage was much smaller but it wouldn't have mattered if the production was of quality. There is no comparison to the shows in Lancaster, Pa. The acting and singing in our opinion was poor except for the Naomi and Ruth characters and a couple of the minor characters and ensembles. I was embarrassed that I had "talked this up" so much to the group I had invited. Upon leaving the shows in Landcaster the audience has always been excited with chatter and so encouraged by the message of the gospel presented. After this performance, the exit was solemn. There was one actor in particular who posed his character in an effeminate way by "flicking his hair often and walking around in small circles in an unnatural way." What?!! Why? Just what was the purpose? It didn't add to his character it distracted from it as well as adding confusion to the scene. If the purpose of this was to minister the gospel to others than unfortunately it missed its mark in our opinion. 1Cor. 10:31,32 ...whatever you do, do all to the glory of God 33. Give no offense...not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many that they may be saved. Col 3:17 I very rarely ever post anything. My heart has been so disturbed that I couldn't let this drop. For those of you actors who gave your best I believe God will honor you. This is a sincere review and my intent is not discourage but to encourage you to strive...
Read moreA spectacular venue. Fully modern set in the bucolic setting of the serene Ohio countryside. The amphitheater style hall has very comfortable seating (see pictures). Every seat -including the periphery- have excellant sight lines. (we were not in the balcony and have no knowledge of the experience from there).
In the lobby prior to the show and during the intermissions there is a lite refreshment/beverage shop (for purchase).
The theatre & all its qualities stands on its own merits quite easily. BUT . . . the theatre is actually part of amazing on site village/complex. Within yards there is a full service Amish restaurant and buffet. Attached to the restaurant is a large full service bakery. Directly next door to the theatre only feet away is an extensive fully modern LARGE well appointed gift shop. On the other side of the theatre there is an Amish Market/Grocery store. To the front of the theatre approximately 100 yards away is a full service Resort Hotel/Spa. See attached photographs
Back to the theatre . . . the acoustics have fine articulation, very pleasing to the ear. Something astonishing, was when someone on stage was NOT using a microphone nor electronic sound enhancement devices. They were clearly understood.
If you have the opportunity to visit a concert or play production at the Ohio Star Theatre you WILL NOT be...
Read moreWe purchased tickets to a concert last year and this year. They both were cancelled. We found out two days before the concert this year that it was cancelled through the artist’s website. We called to confirm. We were told the tickets could be rolled to next year or we could have a credit. We asked to have them rolled to next year and were assured that would happen. We heard nothing further. We called again several weeks later and were told the concert wasn’t on the schedule for next year and we had been issued a credit. We asked for an email confirmation. Again time passed and nothing. Another call was made and finally got an email Last week another call to find out what was happening with the concert. It’s on the artist’s schedule for next year. The only thing the lady could tell me was I still had a credit. Our question of how this would be handled; did we have to ask the credit be applied to the requested concert, if they would do it, when was it going on the schedule, how we would know. I was again assured we would receive a return call from the manager that very afternoon. A week later we are still waiting for the return call. The communication system here desperately needs help. At this point we want tickets, a refund, or the courtesy of a return call. We will go elsewhere for concerts/shows...
