My husband and I came here for a little weekend getaway. We've been to the restaurant many times but never stayed here. When you walk into the very large lobby, the first thing you notice is this big beautiful chandelier. Stunning!! The lobby is quite big so there's different sets of couches here and there. They also have a small convenience store by the front desk where you can get snacks, drinks, etc. The basic necessities. Right past the check-in is a library, with a beautiful fireplace. There's couches and tables, games here too. It's a beautiful room as well, real cozy. The whole hotel is beautifully decorated. The pictures you see were taken or drawn by local people. Our room for the night was beautiful, with a huge king size bed in it. I thought I was going to have to take a running start to get into it lol....very comfortable with lots of pillows. There's a couch and a small balcony, but was too cold to enjoy it. The tv is enclosed in a cabinet. Beside it is a list of the different channels. The bathroom was pretty basic. There's a small fridge in the room which we did use but no microwave. Kinda strange since it seems they're everywhere else we stay. There is one in the breakfast area you can use. All of the furniture in our room as well as the hotel were made by the Amish. They make it well. At 8 every night they serve warm cookies in the breakfast area and read a book to the kids. I thought that was a nice thing, helps the kids wind down. Our stay included a continental breakfast that offered quite a few things. You can have breakfast in the restaurant for 6.00 more per person, for the breakfast buffet. I highly recommend it. We had a relaxing time, enjoyed the pool and look forward to...
Read moreWe spent two days here. It was my 65th b-day weekend. The grounds are immaculate, hotel also. Front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. Our room, a standard king, was very clean. Bed was comfy, bathroom could use an upgrade. It took forever for the toilet to fill, so it sounded like it ran forever. The closet/coffee area was a good space. Small fridge could be up higher though. A little hard to get to if you have a bad back and can't bend very well. The TV was small!in my opinion, but I know most folks don't watch much TV when staying at a hotel. A couple of things I have to complain about was that the outdoor area where our room was, was terribly filthy. Firstly, I thought we were getting a balcony, but instead, we got an outdoor area near the pool and our view was obstructed by some trees. The walls were dirty with cobwebs, bird poo, other stains that looked like someone smeared feces on the wall. The patio chairs were filthy, we had to wipe them down. The breakfast was just one we could have gotten at a run of the mill hotel. The eggs were so overcooked they weren't edible. Why was there only eggs and sausage the first day and underdone biscuits and gravy with sausage on the second day? The sausage looked so gray, in my opinion, they should have at least a little bit of char or color to them. Coffee was good. Thanks for having decaf coffee anyway. But I guess when they offer "free breakfast" you get what you (don't?) pay for. All in all it is a good, clean hotel. We may go back, but there are several other hotels that...
Read moreStarted to leave a review complaining about the thermostat in the room that only had the choice of cool/warm. I know what number to set a thermostat so I’ll be comfortable and I missed that feature.
My daughter went for the free breakfast and I stayed in the room because I didn’t want cold cereal and toast. She called me from the dining room so excited about the breakfast that I had to try it. Flavorful Belgian waffles with your choice of two batters, the best sausage gravy and biscuits I’ve ever had, pastries, juices, yogurt, and wonderful sausages. I’m a critical person but was very impressed with this breakfast so deleted the review about the thermostat.
I’m like the story of ‘the princess and the pea.’ Many expensive hotels I’ve been in have mattresses that have outlived their usefulness with body shaped indentations in them. Carlisle had the best mattresses. The towels were soft and the extra blanket in the closet was soft. One pricey hotel had a blanket in the closet that the word ‘canvas’ came to mind. A thick, rough cover of some type, not what I would call a blanket.
Don’t get me started on soap. A more pricey hotel we stayed in during this trip had large community bottles of soap and shampoo. I wasn’t about to use those not knowing if anyone had tampered with them. I like wrapped little soaps and little shampoos.
I decided no matter where I stay in Ohio, nor how far the drive, the Carlisle will be my headquarters.
Try it ! you won’t be...
