This tree is a giant, probably one of the biggest around. I have heard these American Sycamore's called buttonwood and plane tree's as well. The tree is near the road but there is a curb present now and a bike lane that make it impossible to park near the tree without blocking the bike lane and hanging into the road. It looked so different that I actually drove past it and had to turn around. It is possible to park down the road and walk along the sidewalk which is a short flat walk. It is worth the walk and bigger at the base than some Redwoods I saw in Eureka California a couple years ago. Read moreThe magnificent Buttonball Tree!!! I was so delighted to come across this tree on a recent road trip. It’s gigantic, the only thing I can even compare it to is sequoia trees. I actually gasped getting out of the car to photograph it and stand in its splendor. It’s totally worth the trip to see this beauty.
