This along with race tickets was given to me for Father's Day from my boys. I was excited because I had done the Rusty Wallace at Texas Motor Speedway and plane to do Talladega and Daytona and wanted to compare.
First, I'd say Vegas Speedway is thrilling. It's a mile and a half and really quick. The turns have super banks. The cars go around the track almost by themselves. It took a few laps to learn the track and know how to approach the turns.
I am not a huge fan of restrictors, but I understand why they have them. The cars were nice, a little tight but it's what you get when you have so many people using the same cars.
A little issue with the heat at the track and no shade provided. They could have also sold water or soft drinks because I would have paid $10.00 for an ice-cold drink.
Now, I was not happy with the packages for the price and the certificates. I liked the Wallace Experience because they took a picture of you sitting in the window of the car and a picture of you on the track. Petty just has you against a backdrop and a picture of Richard. They didn't provide a go pro on top of the car, but you could purchase an in-car video for $99.00. The go pro at Wallace was included in the price. Overall cheaper.
I did like the fact that you got a certificate for your fastest lap, but I'd challenge the speed posted. I timed several cars and most all of them were around 110 to 120 MPH so it's hard to believe my speed was 148.51 mph when my wife timed me at 46 seconds. The time and speed don't match. That with me running max RPM of 5000 before the restrictor kicks in and shuts you down.
Overall, I had a good time and yes it was free for me so I shouldn't complain but I wanted to leave a review in case someone reads it before spending $400.00 to $600.00.
I'll give an update in November when I go back with a radar gun and compare the gun to the certificates.
Update, speeds listed on certificates do not match radar. The speeds they print for you are somewhere around 30 miles per hour faster that you actually go.
There's a good way to tell your speed. They only allow these cars to run at 5000 RPM which is around 120 MPH. The Xfinity cars are closest to these cars, and they are running in the 8000 - 10,000 RPM at speeds of...
Read moreTerrible experience. My wife and I went yesterday for my 40th bday. She did the 3 lap ride along, which she enjoyed (thus the 2-star rating). I did the 5-minute driving experience with the hope that I’d love it and happily buy more time. My experience was the exact opposite. As you start your “experience” there is a flat road you drive along that follows the track so you can gain speed and enter the track safely. This is where my spotter/radio man was YELLING in my radio something incoherent and concerning. Was my car on fire? Was someone about to crash in to me? I pushed the talk button and asked him to calm down and speak clearly as he was creating panic - not something you want with several amateur drivers on a track going 100+ MPH. The main skill these spotters should posses is a sense of calm. Creating panic and fear for amateur drivers is just unsafe.
Also some feedback for the owner - I was asked by three different people after my “experience” how it was and I gave varying answers between “awful”, “disappointing”, and “terrible”. All of them looked at me and simply smiled and went on with their day. Actually, the last person, after I said my experience was awful, asked if I wanted to buy a t-shirt. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the shirts that said “I just paid $500 to get yelled at” were sold out.
If your business values feedback, teach your employees to lean into feedback in the moment. Simple responses like, “I’m sorry to hear that, what happened that led to your experience?”, or “is there something we can do to make sure you leave with the experience you came here to have?”.
I’ve read similar reviews that lead to the same conclusion… If you have the right spotter/radio man you’ll probably have a good time. If you don’t, like me, you’ll wish you took your money and rented a...
Read moreI had a great time doing this! It was well worth the money, and I plan on doing this again in Las Vegas or another track. Ok, let's get to the important information. Cost is $199(using coupon code) to drive and $99 to have one of the professional drivers speed you around the track. I opted to drive myself. You are in the car alone with a spotter talking to you via in car radio. If you've done this driving experience in the past there used to be a pace car you had to follow. This is no longer the case. Also, the cars are manual(stick shift). If you don't know how to drive a manual or are not comfortable they can push start you meaning they will put the car in 4th gear and all you have to do is press the accelerator. However, you still have to be able to put the car in neutral once you've completed your laps. I did the five minutes of drive time package and it was more than enough time. I basically had the track to myself, but there can be times when the riders are on the track at the same time as the drivers. This was one of the most exciting things I've done in a long time, and I can't wait until my...
