We enjoyed this hike! We started with a short hike up to the summit that ended up with side trails being 2 plus miles, then walked around the lake 7 plus miles, so had a nice afternoon. The lake trail generally follows the lake edge, so close in places that it was covered by water due to wind waves and therefore impassable. Had to take/make detours to get around those areas. We had rain, hail and snow. It snowed almost the entire afternoon. Overall it was a great day and only saw 3 people.    Read moreThis flat trail is perfect for beginning hikers. The lake is gorgeous. Be sure to start at the visitor center to learn about the history of the lake. The lake was formed by a valcano collapsing and then rebuilding. Because the trail follows the lake, you do encounter quite a few kayakers, campers, swimmers, and cars.    Read moreWe hiked several miles on the west side, turning around at the slide area and starting at Paulina Falls at the outlet of the lake. Beautiful trail with great views to the east. Since it follows the Lakeshore the trail is fairly level with occasional ups and downs. Even though it was late July and a dry year, there were still wild flowers on the trail.
