Just got back from an awesome 4 Day 3 Night family snowmobile trip and had an awesome time! There were 11 of us and we stayed in the "Snowbird" cabin. We haven't been recently and were very skeptical after we read some of the reviews. This is what I can tell you, Our cabin was clean! The refrigerator was quite large and we had a glass top range in the kitchen as well as a dishwasher. There was a 12 cup coffee maker and a nice 4 slice toaster. There were matching dishes (not service for 12 but still a very good amount) and clean and newer utensils for cooking. The pans, pots and glasses were very nice. The bathroom was very nice and the rug was so soft and fluffy. We had ten sets of towels, washcloths and hand towels that were really quick-drying. The firewood was so nice and dry, we split it like butter. Many of the pieces fit right into the wood stove, but we had a great time taking turns splitting it too. We were so warm and cozy that we had to open the windows to cool the cabin down a bit. There was packed snow on our deck, but someone had kept it shoveled and it was just fine. We did not see any mice in our cabin, but did get to watch the blue jay's and snowbirds try and steal our garbage! (Be sure to keep your garbage inside or ask where to take it!)
For those who have complained about old pipes and smelling iron in the water - this area is full of natural hot springs. Many run underground. The smell is not iron, rather sulfur from the natural spring water. Mineral water does have a unique odor depending on the type and quantity of minerals in it. If you do not like it or are not sure if you like it - just bring bottled water. The small amount of staining that we saw was due to the mineral water. Personally, we did not find it offensive and were glad for the natural minerals.
The snowmobiling was good and will improve with more snow. There is a great variety of snowmobiling here - hill climbs, trail riding or a mix of both. The views and scenery are breathtaking and should not be missed.
The staff does an amazing job here. We were not treated rudely and all of our questions were answered well and in a timely fashion. Always a smile and a wave.
If you are looking for a modern, contemporary room with countless staff to do your bidding - this is not the place for you.
If you love the outdoors, appreciate the history of the area and the uniqueness of each cabin and want a relaxed and low key stay - then this is the place for you.
You wont find servants here, but plenty of people who welcome you with open arms and share this amazing piece of history.
Please read the descriptions and know what you are booking before you leave a poor review. It isn't fair to the owners and staff at this beautiful and historic property! Room tip: The Snowbird Cabin sits steps from Paulina Lake...
Read moreI took my family to the lake for a fun day fishing on the lake. When we got there I asked the lady about renting a boat for fishing for 4 people, 2 adults and 2 kids. She had me signed the forms and I paid the lady $70 for "half a day" worths... She then called the guy outside "Todd" and had him show me the boat.. He had a really hard time starting this one particular boat, I asked if we could have another one because I didn't want to have troubles out on the lake with 2 kids on the boat. He's response was, "don't worry I'll get it started". After 10-15 minutes he finally got the motor started and went over the instructions of the motor and the boat and gave us life jackets and cushions for the seats. I loaded all the fishing gear into the boat and tried starting the motor for at least 15 mins! Finally I got it started and went out in the middle of the lake to fish. As I started to troll the motor kept dying on me and I had to try to start the motor over and over again! At one point we were dead on the water for about an hour with no help! I had no service on my cell I tried to call for help but no service and no boats around us to tow us back in, oars were broken and off the holder it was missing screws. After an hour of trying to start the motor I busted 2 of my fingers trying to get it started, finally got it started and came back in to the docks and spoke with the guy "Todd" I believe, and told him what had happened. He didn't seem to care too much, I told him I wanted a refund because that's not what we paid for and I had 2 kids a 2 year old and a 5 year old and they were scared that we were in trouble out on the water! He just said "I'll put you into another boat and give you an extra hour". Again that's not what I wanted! When we got into the other boat the motor did the same thing, we trolled for a little bit then came back in because I didn't want the same thing to happen again! Overall it was a really bad experience for us and I will never rent a boat there again, customer service was horrible and their equipment needs to be replaced or serviced. This review is about my experience with the boat rentals only. Hope this helps everyone before renting...
Read moreWe had a large snowmobiling group staying in 4 cabins at Paulina Lake Lodge. The owner’s customer service was amazing, we requested an early check-in and were pleasantly surprised when all 4 cabins were ready for us 3 hours prior to the original check-in time. I have seen reviews with negative feedback and I’ve come to the conclusion that these people weren’t prepared for the experience they signed up for.
These cabins are rustic, but gorgeous and well cared for. Our cabins were clean, despite the fact that it’s sitting on a lake, in the middle of a volcanic monument. The wood shed was stocked and equipped with an adequate ax to split wood. The cabins are heated with a wood stove, if you’re not familiar with how to sufficiently heat a home with a wood stove, you may struggle to not waste wood. We found the sweet spot that had wood slow burning to heat us through most of the night. With a strong overnight fire, our cabin stayed at a comfortable temperature through the day when we didn’t have a fire going. The average outside temp was in the high 20’s/low 30’s during the day and teens over night.
The lodge itself is quaint and the food was delicious! We did a little snack stop between rides on the 2nd day and enjoyed the fries with garlic aioli. We also enjoyed the house cocktails, with both a hot and cold cocktail menu available. Dinner on the 3rd night was prime rib larger than our faces, ling cod, and chicken. Every dinner option was amazing, we were all so stuffed and happy walking back to our cabins. The restaurant staff was great, very attentive and quick to refill drinks and they quickly fetched the alcoholic beverages from the bar upstairs.
Overall, the experience at Paulina Lake quickly became a next year must-do-again. The snowmobile trails range from beginner to expert, with a lot of play areas in between to meet everybody’s skill level. The hospitality, rustic experience and beautiful views were enough to make us all wish we could have stayed just one day longer. If you enjoy the outdoors and a one of a kind experience, this...
