The Old Fruita schoolhouse is a U.S. registered historical site along Highway 24 in the Fruita Valley of Capital Reef National Park.
This is one-room building was constructed in 1896 and served as the community school until 1941. Today it remains in its original location and is available to be viewed from the outside by visitors to Capital Reef.
There is a small carpark and information sign highlighting the history of the historic Fruita schoolhouse during its period of use. You can easily read the panel and view the historical building in 3-5 minutes, making this convenient stop for those driving through Capital Reef.

   Read moreRight by the roadside, very little effort required to reach. Very well maintained. Parking lot is small, although I've never seen a crowed in any part of Fruita.
Sure there's a lot of history to the building, but if you're reading this on Google Maps, you're not here for the history. Definitely some cool photo opportunities. The average traveller will find it underwhelming. Couple bench desks, slates, ink bottles and a heater in a tiny log cabin. Nice location, right next to the NPS...
