My wife and I visited the museum for our first time on Saturday May 23rd, 2025. Admission was $7 each. Bill Foster, the museum president, took us on a tour of the buildings and rolling stock. He was VERY informative and passionate about the museum. Being a railfan, I appreciate someone who knows what the railroads meant to the history of this country. The museum’s 2 interlocking towers were really fascinating. The levers in the towers no longer control actual train movements but are wired up to simulate their former function. Kudos! The cabooses and troop car also have stories behind them that Bill explained. The museum is located adjacent to a very active CSX rail line which was viewable from the museum’s elevated viewing deck. As the museum wasn’t crowded, Bill spent well over 3 hours talking with us. I can’t thank him enough for spending so much time with us. He is truly THE type of person an organization wants dealing with the public. Expect to spend at least an hour on the tour. The museum is only open Saturdays May through October. Highly recommended for anyone who likes trains. Ken...
Read moreWe visited the Wabash Valley Railroad Museum this past Saturday. We toured the restored engine (complete with whistles and bells-kids loved it), a military car, cabooses, and switch buildings. Our docent was wonderful, he had lots of historic and interesting information and demonstrated various train equipment (and gave the kids a chance to try their hand at it) and was great at keeping the 2 y/o, kids snd adults interested. For 2 hours no less. The Museum is adjacent to a live rail, one could feel the trains approaching before it was visible, round the bend. The restoration work is impressive and appears ongoing as they had a recent acquisition that seemed to need work. This Museum is a grassroots operation. These people take much pride in their hard work-this is a Museum for train lovers and enthusiasts, who want to see the real thing and want to talk trains....
Read moreI've been a member and docent for the museum since 2018. This museum is a fun place to be around, since I first joined in 2018 so many new things have came and the experience has gotten better. We are always trying to think of new things to entertain and bring in more guest.
When people say that people come from all over the world to the museum its true, I've met people from California, Maine, UK, and as far as Japan. The museum offers interactive interlocking towers, a locomotive that you can ring the bell and blow the horn, and railroad signals that you can control at the flip of a switch. A railfan platform gives the opportunity to watch trains while sipping a coke from the coldest vending machine in the...
