We wanted to try out the ramen place which was unfortunately closed but we still went since we wanted our (large) dog to have fun. There's separate dog parks for big and small dogs. The weird thing was there were like a group of 10 or so corgis in the large dog park. But we were still having a good time until the corgi owner really started showing their attitude towards to rest.
To begin with, having been to so many different dog parks, it's quite common for dogs to try to escape at the entrance while other people try to enter or exit the parks with their dogs. It is honestly nobody's fault and to say the least, it is the dog's respective owner to make sure they don't escape - and it's definitely not the person try to enter or exit the park's fault. They can only be cautious to some extent. These corgis were out of control most of the time. When we were trying to exit the park we saw at least 2 dogs with 2 different owners trying to enter and the same count trying to exit. We waited aside patiently for like 5 mins since there were other dogs (especially) trying to exit the park. A couple of corgis escaped and went into the small area (which IMO, is more appropriate, but whatever). At this point, we felt like the chaos had settled since whoever wanted to enter/exit did, so we decided to go ahead to exit. "Fortunately", for us the corgis' owners just realized that their dogs had escaped and decided to yell at us and show their attitude for THEIR dogs escaping & going to their other side. We were trying to hold to gate open so that they could carry 3 of their corgis back into the large dog park and they yelled at us to shut the door, WHEN WE WERE TRYING TO HELP THEM BY HOLDING THE GATE. I cannot even.
At the end of the day, you need to remember that all of the dogs are there to have fun, be responsible for you dogs and respectful of other dog owners. I've never run into such hostile, entitled and inconsiderate dog owners ever. I'm never going back to this park ever again although the idea behind this setup is...
Read moreI gave this place five Stars not necessarily because it's absolutely perfect, but because it's the best place like it. We have been to Mutts further into Dallas (a huge let down) as well as several other places that claim to be restaurant / dog park combos. The shacks is the only one with actually decent food, decent dog park, and good customer service.
The dog park is large and has two sections in case you have a dog that's not as friendly or is smaller and you don't want it interacting with the other dogs as much. The dog park technically requires an access code that you get when you buy food or drink at one of the restaurants (or you can pay for a subscription), but to be honest the lock doesn't work most of the time anyways. There are plenty of benches to sit on while you sip your drink while watching your dog. There is a nice, foot activated dog water fountain. The only thing that could make the dog park better, would be if it had grass instead of mulch. However, that's just a preference.
The restaurants are also highly diverse, allowing for groups with varying tastes all to go together and have a good time. As an example, my girlfriend and I go together. She is a pescatarian and she'll go to the ramen restaurant or the seafood restaurant well I'll get a burger or pizza. The restaurants all have outdoor walk-up windows to order with plenty of shaded outdoor seating for you and your pup. If you'd rather go without a dog and just enjoy the food, you can also go inside the restaurants for counter service and air...
Read moreThis is a fun place to bring your pups and have a beer and bite to eat. I have 2 large dogs and they have plenty of room to run around in the dog park area. However there is a muddy spot in the back my dogs just love to play in (unfortunately), other than that love this place!
update They have managed to block off the muddy area in the large dog park which is great! 👍🏼 However, the last few times Ive come parents/guardians have been letting their small children in the large dog park and letting them run around as if it were a playground. This is VERY concerning to me because most of these children I’ve seen DO NOT behave properly around dogs. They chase dogs and run around some times even scare them! PARENTS!!! DO NOT BRING YOUR SMALL CHILDREN IN THE DOG PARK!!!!!! Some dogs are not used to being around kids and being at eye level and running past them l can scare them, some dogs will bark and scare kids, or a large dog might want to play or run and knock kids over. There is a play area right outside the dog park for kids to play. I come here for my dogs to play, I don’t bring my dogs to a playground where children play. Please think about your children’s safety and don’t bring them in the dog park. I would gladly give a 5 star if this rule was more enforced or more signs...
