I volunteer at the Lake Linden and Torch Lake Railroad (on the main campus for the historical society) as a train operator and conductor. From what I've seen from the passengers and patrons, they enjoy it, especially the kids. We operate the 102 y.o. Porter steam locomotive on Saturdays and special events. Gas locomotive rides are on Sundays and if your lucky we may even let you drive. We have an annual Halloween train with a scare house in the mid afternoon for the kids and a VERY scary train ride and spook house for the adults who think they can stomach it. This year the Halloween train is on August 21st. Also on the campus is museum with hundreds (maybe thousands) of historical artifacts from around the Keweenaw. Our main office and research center is located across the parking lot. We also have a large model train display.
