Loading Zone II — Restaurant in Schoolcraft Township

Used to love this place, but my more recent visits have been disappointing. Rough service my last time dining in, my daughter wanted a chicken salad but the waitress told me the cooks were upset and didn't want to make the chicken? It was just a chicken strip that needed to be fried and cut up. I was asked to take grilled chicken instead because the waitress could make that. Luckily my daughter was a trooper, but that was ridiculous.

Tonight ordering take-out, I was told pizza would be about an hour. I arrived after an hour, was greeted within about a minute, and when checking on my order was told 6 or 7 minutes. I waited another half hour before my food came out. During that time a large group walked out, they had been waiting an hour for their food and multiple people had been served that had arrived later than them. A couple next to me also seems put off by their experience and said they wouldn't be back. One of the bartenders told me she clocked out 4 hours ago... I hope she clocked back in! Having your employees continue to work off the clock is illegal. I think I overheard that the kitchen was shortstaffed, but there seemed to be plenty of waitstaff.

They typically give a loyalty card with your pizzas that you can save up for free pizza, I did not have one with my $70 pizza order. I guess it would've been nice to receive something more than a "thank you for your patience. The pizza seems to have changed also, the crust was thicker than I remember and toppings were sparse. Onion rings were cold.

I don't blame the waitstaff, but accurate expectations do need to be set. The kitchen needs help. I've heard this place is under new management. I can see it's still busy, but if the service continues this way I fear this local treasure could go to waste. Please don't let...

Wanted to eat local while staying in Calumet and ended up at Loading Zone II. We ate at the quaint small, town restaurant on a Friday night. We were disappointed by the portion of the appetizer, Brew House Plate for 4 people. I ordered the large chef salad- the waitress warned me the small was quite big but I still ordered the large- it came out in a medium size mixing bowl practically! After I was fully stuffed, I still had over half left! My one son ordered the double bacon Swiss burger and said it might've been the best burger he's ever had- And he has a well known burger place he loves back home and picks any opportunity he can! My other son ordered the corned beef Rueben and they were unfortunately out of corned beef but it was delicious with roast beef! My 17 year old wanted to try the bacon cheeseburger pizza and he was in love! And it made a good cold leftover later that night too! On Saturday we spent the day in eagle harbor and copper harbor and even got lost for a couple hours on seasonal roads and got back to Calumet shortly before 9 where it seemed like everything was closed or closing. Boys immediately suggested ordering other pizzas from Loading Zone that had interested us to bring back to the hotel- so we did just that! Ordered the Breakfast Pizza, Cheddar and Steak, and Meat Lovers- And they did not disappoint!! Very delicious and everyone devoured them. We have some leftover for tomorrow and look forward to the leftovers. If I come back to stay in the area I will definitely eat here again and will recommend to anyone staying...

When I ate here the bar had 5 folks, a table of 3 by the door, and a family in the backroom. Not that much for a bartender and two waitresses to handle but service was horrible. It took over 20 minutes to get drinks and in that time another couple came in and got drinks and their food before we even got to order. We kept it simple with burgers and fries. We shouldn't have ordered but it was getting too late to go somewhere else so we ordered burgers and fries. It tasted great but the burger was super small compared to the bun. It was a child sized burger on an adult bun. The food was okay but the portions were small for the price. The service is bad enough I won't be going back and highly recommend Calumet pizza works. It's a little bit more but the service is really good and the food is just as good as this place used to be under Dinky. I hope the new folks get it together, this used to be a great place to go. I'd rather have seen it close than be run...
