Neat little museum in Canajoharie. Prominently featured are paintings by Winslow Homer. A copy of Gilbert Stuart's George Washington is also in the museum. Several works depicting the Mohawk Valley region are are also presented. The museum also does a nice job with the history of the Beech-Nut factory. Featured are ads displayed from the 1920's and 1930's. Along, with the history of Beech-Nut the story of the Arkell family is provided. Also, photographs and stories about working in the factory. The museum does a good job presenting information for each painting as well. Rotating galleries are also a part of the museum. The exhibit on "granges" in New York State was interesting. Museum is fairly priced and...

This museum does have some very nice art and interesting history of the area, including a nice exhibit about how the local art influenced the marketing for Beech-Nut, which was the big local employer for a very long time. On the other hand, the museum is small for the price. Also, we got in trouble for standing too close to one of the paintings, and it is hard to figure out how close is too close for them. They could put up ropes to indicate where people are allowed to stand and where they are not. Many of the paintings have information about them in small signs next to them, but the signs have very small print so they are not really readable unless you stand close to...

My first time there, I had been wanting to go for ages. Went to see the photography exhibit by a local photographer, John Bayne Young. A nice collection of prints documenting the local area. Would like to see more of his photos. Also, they had a nice collection of paintings, prints, postcards, books, and other ephemera celebrating the 200 anniversary of the Erie Canal. It's a small museum connected with the local library that showcases local history and the history of the Beech-Nut factory and the family that started it. Very...

I spent a lovely couple of hours last week exploring the permanent and rotating exhibits. The Beechnut section was very interesting - I had no idea of the history or how many products they made! I am a fan of both Winslow Homer and Albert Bierstadt and took some time really absorbing their work. I am very glad I took a short day trip here to spend a couple of hours and would definitely return again. A very inexpensive admission fee for some really nice exhibits.
