I had heard really great things about Taco 29. I finally made it there today and was excited to check it out. It seemed like a nice little spot that was pretty clean and well maintained. Some good colors and a few tables in the room with enough space to not feel cramped.
There was a sign to seat yourself and the menu was on the table but now that I think about it, maybe it said look at the menu and then go order at the counter because after about 10 minutes I still had not seen anyone so I left. I'm a patient person but honestly the menu didn't look as authentic as I was expecting. I would have loved to ask someone if there were tacos de lengua or al pastor but it looked like the menu just had beef and chicken. I don't doubt the food is good for what it is but my search for a great Mexican restaurant in the area will continue as I don't know if many that remake nachos with canned cheese. Don't get me wrong, that stuff is gold...at a sporting event, just not the delicious Mexican...
Read more3/22/2022 Stopped in to Taco 29 in Canajoharie NY for the first tyme. Greeted by a friendly young lady at the cash register/order area. Ordered a Quesadilla and a Taco Salad.. When our order came I got to say the Taco Salad ingredients were FRESH!! Very tasty and Fresh!! ((I wasnt the one who ate the Quesadilla, so I cannot personally say, but my friend said it was delicious!) Our order came to us in a very timely manner (no real wait) and the portions were PERFECT! Cost is very good! The dining area is small and cozy… perfect! SIDEBAR: I sat by the window and admired a bit of the old architecture of the town outside…so much history.. was saddened, though,to see that the famous “Dummy Light” (circa 1926) was gone!! It was apparently knocked down by a semi in Nov 2021… 😢I HOPE CANAJOHARIE WILL RE INSTALL IT AND SOON! It definately is a gem! Getting back to Taco 29… if youve never visited this resturant, you should! It is a nice place with GREAT fresh food!!! And the...
Read moreIt's a great place for meximerican type tacos. I wouldn't say theres anything authentic mexican about the food though. Very American taco vibe and that's not a bad thing. Had a really great burrito bowl but the taco salad was just ok. The cheese sauce they use is the main thing that's putting me off because it seems to come pre-made out of a jar. If they made homemade queso/cheese sauce, it would make everything perfect. A good taco spot has to have real queso in my opinion. Otherwise they have decent tacos and burritos. Lots of fresh toppings. And the rice is really good too. Salsa is good and fresh. It's cute inside but very small. ETA- they have the best Tres Leche cake I've ever had....
