From our first contact with the College, we have been very favourably impressed with Houghton alumni & alumnae, current students, faculty, & administration. Houghton doesn't pretend to be an exciting place in a major urban centre. Sure, it can be isolated or "boring." Our kids have told us of quite a few things the College has brought to campus, though. More importantly, however, it does offer students a wide variety of opportunities in many majors, overseas experience, and the kind of personal attention many young people really need at this time in their lives when they have so many decisions before them. For parents, it's also nice to know their children are in a safer part of the US. They have also provided generous financial aid which helps a lot too. Here’s my breakdown:
45% of people are not truly Christians and are there just for the decent price or sports programs 45% of people consider themselves devout Christians but are judgmental terrible people 5% of students and faculty are truly great people and inspirational Christians
Unfortunately the 5% doesn’t make up for the terrible food, few course offerings, outdated and small dorms, and overall draining atmosphere. Most of my peers agreed that Houghton is steadily going downhill.

My son is in his third academic year there and our family wholeheartedly gives Houghton a five-star rating. The small class size is a real plus, in that the professors are able to give personal attention to each and every student.
