A small, clean, modern, 2-story motel with free parking & free breakfast (either cold breakfast at the Inn of self-serve cereal, yogurt, fresh whole fruit or hot breakfast at the Houghton University student center a short uphill walk away; campus breakfast is buffet style & prepared by the campus dining services vendor; on the morning of my stay, it was waffles, scrambled eggs, home fries, cut cantaloupe pieces, yogurt, scones, crumb cake, etc., most served under infra-red hot lamps). Inn has very reasonable room rates with a discount for paying cash. Front desk is not staffed full time, but my emails to the Innkeeper prior to arrival received prompt, courteous, & efficient replies. No elevator. My corner room, #24, had a mini-fridge, but no safe. Nice country & wooded views from all windows, but I personally prefer the 2nd story. Contrary to another review here, no rooms have a creek view, but that did not matter as the natural peaceful setting was lovely. Inn is located adjacent to the Houghton University campus; it is a small 1,000 student Christian institution with which I have no affiliation. Plan your dining ahead of time as there are no visible options nearby other than...
Read moreWe stayed at the Inn at Houghton Creek on a short getaway to Letchworth State Park. |The Innkeeper was polite and friendly. The check-in and check-out process was quick and easy. The location is well situated for the South entrances to the park.|Our room was dated but clean, and the bed was comfortable. |My only suggestions would be a few updates to the room and public spaces. The air conditioner in our second-floor room was old and extremely loud. The building itself does not benefit from a central air conditioning system. The window screens had some holes in them, and the sashes were difficult to open. The door lock on the exterior door was sticky and wouldn't release my key. It took a little force on my husband's part to get it out. The lighting in the back stairwell was dim and made seeing the steps a bit difficult in the evening. The bedside lamp needed replacing or at least re-bolting to the wall. The bathroom fixtures could also benefit from an update. The country charm is definitely there; it just wants a little more updating to |be...

I called on the afternoon of July 4th, and was told they had one room left - Rm 19 on the first floor - with two queen beds. I made a reservation, verified my credit card info, and was told that the front desk would be open until 11 pm. I was visiting my relatives at Rushford Lake, and my cousin was going to split the room with me. When I got there at 10:30, the woman at the front desk said they gave my room to someone else, and that I was switched to a room on the second floor with a single king bed. I was not happy because this messed up my plans, so I left.
I don't think it's cool to take a reservation over the phone and then change it without notifying the guest ahead of time. When I first called, the woman told me they had one room left (Rm 19), so it didn't make sense that they were trying to switch me to another room. In all fairness, I think if they're going to do that to someone, they should offer...
