Mount Beacon Park offers multiple trails with stunning views and a variety of trails. The initial ascent is a bit steep but very well maintained. It is a quick hike to reach the best views at the Wheel House and the Fire Tower. I went on a loop covering Casino Trail, Wilkinson Memorial Trail, Lambs Hill, and Rainbow Falls. The main Casino Trail up to the Fire Tower was nicely maintained and full of people. I had no issue with bugs here. Past the tower the trail became much less maintained and at some parts unmarked. It was common to walk through thigh high grass and have to retrace my steps to stay on the trail. Be sure to bring bug spray and use permethrin on your clothes and boots to keep ticks off. I also ran into a harmless snake but be aware of them as the trail may get overgrown and tight. Towards my descent I encountered a lot of bugs especially gnats and mosquitoes. This is a very versatile park with many different trails for you to experience. I would definitely recommend coming to at least see the breathtaking views...
Read moreCame here in October & November of this year. Both times were on a Saturday but never too crowded. The path starts out with an inclined walk near the trailhead, followed by stairs and then a a very steep rocky path. The walk up to the Overlook is strenuous and definitely caused me to stop several times to catch my breath. I would not recommend for beginners but definitely can be done if you're in good shape. The view at the Overlook is pretty and on a clear day you can see for miles. If you have any energy left I recommend you continuing the walk to the Fire Tower. This path is no where as tough as the first climb but it'll take you about an extra 20 mins to get to the tower. The view at the tower is amazing and you'll probably have to wait a while to climb it because of the crowd. It's extremely windy up there and you may feel the tower moving. Yes, I chickened out and didn't make it to the top. There are many restaurants nearby in Beacon that you can walk in as you are and recharge. Definitely will be coming back...
Read moreI decided to visit this place since the break neck ridge is closed for the next two years for renovations. 1st parking is free with no time limit. 1st part of the trail is made of steel stairs and there are quite a few. After that its all very rocky rugged trail. Please where comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water. Trail length is just over a mile but keep in mind that most if it is steep. I recommend not going on a day that's too hot like I did because it will make things harder. If you need to rest along the way I recommend you should because its challenging. Once you reach the top the view is amazing. You an obstructed view of the city hudson river and town across the water. You'll also find an abandoned steel work. You make your descent take you time its easy to trip and fall but over the challenging trek to the top is made up by the...
