On 6/14/2024 my wife, 2 kids & I along with a friend & his 2 kids visited Legoland NY to celebrate a couple of upcoming birthdays.

Tickets & parking were purchased at regular price a few months prior. Had we waited to purchase our tickets closer to our visit date we could’ve saved almost 50% on our kids tickets. We called to inquire about the newly discounted price & were told no adjustments, no refunds. Guess early birds pay more in this case. We were fine with it as this is their written policy.

We all arrived at Legoland at 11:30am, driving 20 miles through off & on rain. We purchased preferred parking & followed posted signs for that area. An employee directing cars where to park asked if we had preferred parking, I said yes. Then he asked if he could see the parking pass, so I showed him the QR code on my phone. Finally he asks “is that pass for this vehicle?” HUH!?? I said YES! Not sure what that was about but I refused to let it ruin our trip. As a side note, parking is scanned upon exit, not entry.

We entered the park very quickly, there were no lines other than a school field trip waiting to the side. By 12pm there was a steady drizzle to light rain. At this point our kids had ridden the carousel & were inside building lego projects.

Around 12:30 the rain slowed briefly, so we attempted to try getting on another ride. Within minutes that light rain became moderate. What I could only assume was a manager / supervisor came running to where we were and instructed the operator to close the ride. He did & announced over the PA system this ride is under “temporary closure.”

A few minutes after that rain was now heavy to torrential, blowing horizontally at times. At this point many in the park were briskly walking or running back to the parking lot & completely drenched. Included in that group were the school children on their field trip. My group was under an awning adjacent to the ride to try & keep dry. We were hoping to “ride it out”, but I got a weather notification alerting me to a lightning strike 14 miles from our current location in Goshen, NY. Rain was forecasted on & off until 3:30PM.

At this point I said we should leave. Given the hilly terrain & deteriorating weather conditions it was unsafe to stay out in the open & exposed. We stopped by Guest Services which is right next to the exit to inquire about the Rain Day Policy. Employee’s response was already seemingly prepared, stating they have nothing to do with that & we should monitor the Legoland website for park closure updates. We did just that throughout the afternoon / evening, no updates or closure were posted. In fact tickets were still available for purchase for that day.

I read their policies before purchasing so I understood, no refunds. BUT Legoland does have a Rain Day Policy which I also was aware of and hoping wouldn’t be the case. One would think heavy to torrential rain w/ a nearby lightning strike would immediately trigger this policy for everyone’s safety. It did not.

I do realize this is a very long post, but I wanted to accurately & factually describe our first (& LAST) visit to LegoLand NY. Our group spent ~$400 total so our kids could get on 1 ride & play indoors w/ legos for a short time. Fortunately we were able to salvage the rest of the day by taking them for an indoor swim & ice cream.

My advice to Legoland would be to actually honor your policies & not play this waiting game with your guests in hopes they’ll just go away because you already have their money. Good customer service goes a long way. Keep going down this path & all I have to say to you is GOOD LUCK!

We won’t be back & I’ll be sure to refer anyone thinking of visiting Legoland NY to this post.

P.S. If Legoland’s response is going to be a template, pre-scripted memo, DON’T! That’s just adding further insult to injury.

  • Update: I did receive a response from Legoland re: this visit. They did honor their Rain Day Policy, but my friend, wife & I only found this out after directly contacting them. Perhaps Legoland should consider automating...

I'll start with the good because this is going to be long. The resort is magical when you're walking in and the lobby is crazy cool. Staff was friendly. Rooms were clean, showers were hot with plenty of pressure. Thats about where the good ends. Now I'll explain why this resort gets a 2 star from me: my wife and I took the kids here for a two night trip to the park, we paid over $1,200 for this package. For that we got the 2 day park passes, 2 day parking pass and a room. It was wildly expensive but we thought, hey the resort is probably over the top amazing, right? No. First off what kind of resort doesn't have a microwave in the room? Ice machines are on what floor? There's no table to sit and work at or feed your kids? A beautiful view of the back of the park store - basically dumpsters and trash. No indoor pool? A gym the size of a closet with literally 3 machines and some light free weights, not even bench to use the free weights on....like why was the room so expensive? But it doesn't stop there. You are essentially forced to watch only lego movies on the TV as well because they are downloaded on the TVs and the resort wifi is so horribly slow that you cannot stream anything else. As a matter of fact I'm laying in my resort bed writing this right now at 839pm because I'm dead bored from staring at the frozen TV screen of Winston Churchills face from my 8th attempt to stream a Netflix documentary. I mean i can't even keep up with work emails here the internet is so slow - it's crazy. Anyway, the rooms also have a weird layout where they put your children right next to the door. It's like the rooms were designed by someone who has never stayed at a hotel with children they care about before. I dont like my kids being between me and the door at a hotel - idc if it's a "resort" or not. The walls are paper thin, I can hear the neighbors fighting about how much they spent on lord of the rings lego sets on one side and what i assume is a gang of rougue unsupervised children on the other....wish I could drown them out with a movie.....but breakfast at this awesome Bricks Cafe that's included with our stay surely should make up for these issues. Unfortunately No again. We had a reservation for 830am breakfast which we showed up at 815am, only to wait in a line that went half way through the lobby until 833am. Then when we got to the "buffet" style breakfast we were seated at a table in a massive hall that must have seated at least 250 people. Our table had a menu on it, eggs, tator totts, bacon, sausage were free, everything else an upcharge....and i mean upcharge. $7 for 3 mini pancakes? $11 for French toast sticks? What the Frick? There was a buffet line though, at it was sugary cereal, coffee, half rotten apples, juice and toast. Not a spoon to be found for the cereal though because 250 people were mobbing that little buffet line. I, 30 year old male, ate my green bowl of trix cereal with my fork. Once our free food arrived, the tator totts were slappin. Pretty much everything else made my wife and kids nauseous, I mean I ate it all but I am in the Army so I'm a poor judge. I did find it ironic that on the way out I noticed the big entry way sign is a massive lego cook book that says "Family Recipes" my wife looked over at me and said "throw the book away" 🤷‍♂️. Anyway we canceled our breakfast for tomorrow and will go to a fine establishment that has never done wrong by us - McDonalds. Can we talk about the lack of a pool indoors? Like is this a resort? Because my buddy who came on this trip with us stayed at a Sleeps Inn down the road for literally a quarter of the price had an indoor pool, and free pancakes....you can tell I'm mad. All in all this place was just a huge miss for us. I'm thankful that my wife and I are seasoned family trippers (not sure if that's a thing but if you know you know) and we can look at this as an experience we simply just won't be repeating. Save your money - the park was alright if you love long waits. Get the cheaper hotel - it's very likely better than...

This place gets 4 stars because my 8-year old loved it. If you are on the fence, here are a few things to know. I have just combined our hotel and park experience for simplicity 1)Don't fool yourself, you are paying for the brand. The hotel is essentially a better-branded Super 8 (with a crappier breakfast , more on that after). I once stayed in a suite that Celine Dion stayed in for much cheaper BUT my son thought it was the coolest room in the world and that's all that matters.Tip: stay one night at the hotel and then stay at the Fairfield Marriot a few mins away (it even has one of those waffle makers with the included breakfast) 2)The park can get hotter than the surface of the sun. even if your people wandered the desert for 40 years you would still struggle to maintain forward movement with this lack of shade. Tip: go old school parasol, floppy hat, or race car style cooling suit and hit some of the many water stations. 3)Layout -Park is a giant hill, but it offers steps straight down the middle or the gondola ride to get back to the top. 4) The park can get busy and wait times can get long. Tip: the first hour seems dead and you can hit the rides you really want and rarely have to wait to go again. 5)Food costs are shocking, even for a jaded middle class male like myself. Tip: HEAD INTO TOWN! we ate amazing pizza at Sorrentos and got a huge meal at Brew for half the price. Town is 3 minutes away and hopefully people take time to check it out. 6)Go to the desk and check out the schedule for the day at the hotel. Despite being fairly militant regarding any interactions with the Lego characters, the Meet N Greets are a highlight. We happen to stumble onto Lego Dracula in the parking lot and we quickly told that they were off limits because they were doing a promo. I'm thinking if you are dressing characters up and they are running around a parking lot full of kids on their way to the park, you might have to rethink how interactive they should be. 7)The pool is awesome and there are cabanas but they are an insane amount. Tip:Do the first few hours in the park, and hit the pool by 1 and enjoy it for a few hours before it gets busy and then pop back over to the park to close out the day 8)The lobby floor has Lego everywhere which is kinda awesome.Tip: to avoid instant foot death shoes should be worn at all times, but then again I would hope you would anyway. 9)some benefits to season passes, but didn't seem like anything substantial. There was a 10% discount for season pass holders at the big store in the park but we noticed a few things were marked up over other places. 10)The staff- The Master Builders are generally great people and took a lot of time with us to explain things. My son also did the Lego workshop in the hotel and loved it. The rest of the staff were hit or miss and it is very clear that they work under very rigid guidelines as i kept coming across random clip boards stashed in areas and noticed some management types constantly observing employees. Tip:There is a guy (maybe Adam?) who looks like Jay Kay from Jamiroquai who works in the main area of the hotel- he was AWESOME. 11)Breakfast- the self serve cereal bar was a hit but anything that was cooked was so tasteless I had assumed something had gone wrong with me medically. After consensus with the table it was confirmed it was the food. My kid is basically a raccoon and he still found it pretty bad. Tip: There is free coffee at the bar during breakfast hours though and the rest of the day it’s $4 so get it then. For reference the Marriot had an all day coffee tea and hot chocolate station which was just a banger of an idea. 12) with our son being 8 we felt it was the perfect time to take him because it allowed him to go on all of the rides and the experience didn’t seem “too young” for him but wouldn’t push the age much later.

Overall it was a pretty decent way to spend a few days. You can do the park in 1 day but might feel a bit rushed and may not get to try everything if the lines get long. 2 days was more...
