Uniondale Public Library — Attraction in Town of Hempstead

I love this library and the whole system of libraries in Nassau County. I’ve been a library member since I was a kid, and that’s a long time ago. I used to go when it was a house on the opposite side of the street and the kid section of books was in the entrance way. I was there with my mom when the big northeast blackout happened and they had to kick us out. I’ve always used this library and, since I was a teacher, I would reserve 30 or more books in the summer. They used to have one shelf in the section where they kept reserved books as my shelf because there tended to be so many books. One summer they did “Blind Date with a Book” where they wrapped books in paper and you just chose one and found out what it was when you opened it. What a great way to introduce readers to new authors. I enjoyed that and hope they do it again. Reserving books is so easy now on line. I still often have 20-30 books reserved because I find out when my favorite authors will have a new book come out and get right online to reserve it. I have lived in other states and can honestly say that this library far exceeds others in book availability and the all-around helpfulness...

We went to the library to do research about public health and healthcare accessibility. We interviewed a few librarians and a few people in the library when in the middle of it a lady (who I presumed work in administration) stopped us. She said we can't just walk up to people and we need permission from the lib to interview people. I immediately say okay, we can leave. But she keep asking us questions like where we plan on going to do more interviews, if we want to talk to the manager, what is this for, etc. It's like she expected us to put on a fight. It was honestly humiliating that she kept interrogating us. All the other library employees were amicable and willing to help except her. She treated us...

IF YOU WANT TO STUDY IN PEACE AND QUIET DON’T GO HERE! Idk where should I start, everytime I come here and I’m trying to study ALWAYS someone is talking LOUD and NO ONE is doing anything. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A LIBRARY. How these people are talking and people who is working doing nothing? Why hire people that doesn’t protect/take care of the library meaning that they would have to go to these people and tell them SHUT UP as this is a library. I came here 4 times tried so hard to study but always someone is talking. This is the last time I’m coming here. Such a waste of gas and time! IF YOU WANT TO STUDY IN PEACE AND QUIET...
