Was told this was a family friendly location, after arriving and getting on our horses, we had two together at the back of the pack who were fighting/biting/bucking. Luckily, the two of us on those horses had the most experience (by chance- no one checked who had any experience or warned us), and were able to safely navigate the situation without falling or hurting ourselves and the horses. Afterwards, the staff leading the trail told the person at the front of the trail "those two don't get along, they're battling for pecking order. I like to put them together to see what happens. Sometimes, we have kids here and it's fun to watch them on them."
They also said that their favorite horse had four horseshoes so that it could handle the terrain, but the rest only had 2. He also spent a chunk of the ride sharing his political views and trying to convince my sister in law of these views. Not exactly a relaxing Adirondack trail ride.
Posting because DO NOT. Come here with children. Do not come here without experience riding horses. Ideally, do not come here at all and go somewhere that is going to value the safety of their horses and...
Read moreI have to say we were disappointed overall. the ride was beautiful and the horses appeared well cared for but the staff and guide were rude. First, we were told by John on the phone that since we were all experienced riders that he would send us on a different ride from the other group that included a 7 year old. When I mentioned this when we arrived I was told that John should not have said that. Okay. So we spent the 3+ hours stopping every few minutes because the young one could not make the pony walk. The guide smoked constantly so we were out in the fresh air of the Adirondacks inhaling her second hand smoke. And when someone asked her if she still liked riding she said rudely "sometimes". My feeling was if she didn't like it then she shouldn't be doing it. Getting to share time with a horse is special. And the "getting in the water with the horse" at the lake was a 15 second walk out and in, for those that could make the horse go in. Anyway, I was sorry we spent the time and money - these folks apparently don't like what they are doing and I'm sorry I...
Read moreHad no problem with the reservation process, the trail was beautiful and the horses were well-behaved, for the most part. We were put off by the staff, however. The woman there when we arrived couldn’t be bothered to stop texting long enough to acknowledge our existence, and acted put out when we asked questions and when I wasn’t sure I had enough cash for our four riders (since no one had told me credit wasn’t accepted). The trail guide was also unfriendly and seemed to have a mean attitude toward the horses, giving two of us sticks to hit the horses when they wouldn’t go fast enough. When we got back to the stable the woman was gone and the trail guide had no one to help the six riders disembark. He yelled at me when my horse started to go into the stable, and after my husband’s horse lay down (while my husband was still on it) he exasperatedly started kicking the horse to get up, only asking my husband if he was ok as an afterthought. I was too afraid to ask if he or the woman would take a group photo for us; they both seemed to wish they were...
