Catharine Cottages — Attraction in Town of Montour

We stayed here for two nights and would definitely return if in the area. It’s proximity to Watkins Glen state park, Ithaca and Corning is great. Sitting outside by the river in the evening was the real highlight, and the owner was lovely and welcoming. ||Some minor things that would have improved our stay, but didn’t at all detract from the overall visit. No kettle! We are not American and really like to boil water for tea in the morning. Likewise no bowls for cereal, and no place to get water apart from the bathroom. There isn’t really a way around that as the cottage is just the bedroom and the bathroom, but it meant there was no options apart from eating out for every meal, including breakfast. Luckily there are plenty of options around.||It is not as secluded as I had thought - it’s right off the road and you can hear traffic. Not too bad (especially compared to where we are in NYC!) but still not as serene as I had hoped.||An extra light by the bunk beds would be good.||Lastly, our neighbours smoked which drifted over to our space in the evening which was gross. Not the owners fault of course, but it would be great if the property was non-smoking.||Would...

Cannot reccomend enough! The grounds are immaculate and the location perfect: close to local attractions but just far away enough to feel as if you've escaped a bit. The creek is right outside your door. Our dog loved it! Super dog friendly with extra little details to make her feel at home. We also loved that we were allowed to crate her for a few hours in the cabin as Watkins Glen doesn't allow dogs on the main trail. All the necessities were available such as grilling needs, ice, wood, etc. It was also really nice having AC in the cabin! Loved the complimentary basket with fresh muffins, local cheese, and jam. The area surpassed our expectations with so many great walking trails and waterfalls to explore all day. One thing to note, though this did not bother us: cabins are close to a main road but traffic slows by night and the crackle of the fire and creek were all we could hear (we live very rurally so this didn't bother us; we weren't expecting to be super remote). My family and I were lucky enough to reserve a cottage for the weekend. Such a beautiful property with everything you'd need. Cottage is well equipped and very clean. Shower was warm right away and good pressure. Both the full size bed and futon were very comfortable. So comfortable we overslept every day!||||Ilona the owner had thought of everything to make sure her guests had what they'd need; firewood, starters, BBQ supplies, utentils, ice, etc. She even stopped by to check on us the first day and have a chat.||||Location is perfect and close to all major waterfalls and lake. As we drove around all I saw were mostly motels in the area. I am so glad we stayed at Catharine Cottages because after a long day of exploring waterfalls and hiking it was great to sit by the fire in front of the cottage and listen to the running stream.||||My only disappointment is that it's nearly impossible to book...
