UPDATE: So as detailed in my original review, we had a negative experience last year at Dave's. As this year's apple season approached, my wife and I discussed giving Dave's another chance as it has been a family tradition for over 12 years. THEN I get notified that the owner responded to my original review. I opened it expecting to see something to the effect of sorry for your poor experience. Instead I got "last years crop was bad because of a drought (and my greed kept me from lowering my prices to match my product), I'm not greedy because I drive a late model pick up." So then I looked at the other reviews and replies. SHOCKED when I saw the owner's reply to so many reviews were that "if you don't like it, go somewhere else". These were multiple loyal patrons that had come to Dave's 10, 15, even 20 years with their families. Now, knowing that we were not the only ones with a negative experience and how little regard Dave's has for hardworking families that have patronized him for over 100 years combined, we will not be coming back. We will take his advice to all those loyal customers and start a new family tradition with a new orchard. PLEASE do not take my word. Look at all of the reviews and more importantly, Dave's disregard for the loyalty of the hard working families in the area. Never again! For many years we would make at least 2 trips a year to the orchard and distillery with multiple families. We would park at the neighboring Applewood winery. We would grab a couple of flights of cider or wine. Then we would walk to the orchard so the kids could pick some apples, then grab a drink from the distillery and food for the kids. After eating we would buy stuff from the orchard store, walk back to the winery for another tasting and to buy a couple of bottles before leaving. A nice family day. This year after parking The winery and doing our usual, we were told by employees of the orchard that we were not allowed to walk down to the orchard. We were told we would have to go back to our car and drive down because of safety reasons. After moving our car and parking at the orchard, we found out the real reason. They are now charging $5 per person to enter. So we were charged $50 for four adults and six children to purchase overpriced apples and items in the store. I have never had an issue paying an inflated price for the apples as I understood that is how they made their money. I do have an issue with being charged $5 per person for the right to buy over priced apples. On top of everything else, worst crop of apples I have ever seen there. GREED is the reason we will no longer be going there.

Apple Dave’s deserves a higher rating for sure. We came here a few weekends ago and it was great! We loved it, from arrival it felt very welcoming, we were quickly greeted by Peaches the resident pooch who roams the property. Peter was such a jolly fun presence who was very welcoming. The cider was great, the live music was lovely, and the views were serene. We walked around the lake and saw bunnies, a fox, and the hound! Ha ha You absolutely can walk to and from another nearby spot, unlike what some reviews say. And yes they have a rivalry and Peter says it started at birth, I think this should bring them even more business as it spices things up and if I was in charge of marketing they would be yelling over the fence once an hour at each other to keep things interesting and draw in a crowd. Either way I’ll be back! It’s fun!

The atmosphere and the view was great. The Applejack and cider were really tasty—highly recommend those. The food was basically concession stand quality. Plain, dry hamburgers with nothing but DIY store-bought ketchup, mustard, and relish. You might expect more given the quality of the place and the drinks. Everything else was great. Enjoyed the live music and atmosphere, just don’t expect to get a nice meal when you come. I also was not a fan of the $5 per person entry fee. I usually don’t mind a fee for something that includes an experience, like a state fair, etc., because I understand there is additional cost to provide that. But I don’t think the on-site experience justifies the fee if you’re just coming to pay for food and drink and listen to a little music. You can get that with no entry fee at many other places nearby.

DONT GO HERE !! especially if you have autistic or special needs children .. they don’t care about your experience! These people are very GREEDY They charge $25 cash for a puny tiny bag. I only had $20 cash and she told me to go all the way back to the farm store and pay by credit card I asked her to please just have some grace .. I have an autistic grandson who can’t handle being in the mud and going back will set him off because we were almost ready to get to the Orchard. I told her I would make it up some other way at the establishment. She said no, and ignored me!! I was trying to look for cash anywhere on my person and couldn’t find any. It was only by the grace of another couple who was trying to return their bag because they were only taking pregnancy pictures in the orchards ( but apparently had to buy a bag) I offered them my $20 and they paid $5 to shut the greedy woman up!!!! (THANK YOU AGAIN) Once you finally walk to their disgusting muddy orchards, the apples trees have no name cards or signs to tell you what apples they are!! You are literally going in ignorant - so now you have to try every Apple from every tree and ALL ARE TASTELESS!!! We found one tree, again don’t know what kind of Apple it is, but filled the bag because of all the trouble I went through, just to get tiny bag!! When I was leaving, I told the owner Justin’s wife at the bag stand that it was the most horrible experience I ever had and she told me the reason they don’t have signs is because the kids play with them and the parents don’t stop them from doing it! I was like are you serious right now ?so you don’t expect children to do things like that? Also, No exit signs so you don’t know how to get back out and there’s no staff out there to help you. I’ve been here several times before and there was a hayride, there were decent apple trees, and the staff was kind and they were fair with their prices. You can’t even go to the winery and then go straight into the Apple orchard you have to get into your car and drive to the next parking lot. (Btw $5 PER PERSON) to park in the apple orchard part of the establishment. I never write bad reviews but please don’t waste your time. There’s plenty of other apple orchards around and I would check their reviews before you go. The only reason I gave it one star is because I had to otherwise if they let you do zero, it would be a zero!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!

!!!!!!!!PLEASE READ OWNERS REPLY!!!!!!!!!

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER RETENTION!!

I’m adding this to my review now because I want people to see exactly how they are. Noteworthy by several? It was just you (Justin’s wife) finding me uptight because when you told me to travel clear across the establishment to see and complain to your husband, Justin, who you said I MIGHT find in the kitchen knowing I had an autistic child with me who would not be able to handle that.. but this is HOW you “ handle” special needs kids… YOU DONT CARE SO DONT LIE! You only remembered me because I told you I was going to write a review. I’m glad you got it!!! And you don’t have to tell me I can go to other Apple orchards because I told you I would never come back here again! I’m not even being extra… just read the replies of all your other unhappy customers And you just proved that you’re greedy because a real establishment would try to retain a customer...

This is a sad story. Up until this year (2022) Apple Dave's Orchards was a gem. It was one of the highlights of my family's calendar every year. We typically visit six to eight mid-Hudson region apple farms in September and October each year so I have a good understanding of which are the best and Apple Dave's was definitely at or near the top. To whatever extent it has always been two businesses side by side (Apple Dave's at the bottom of the hill and Applewood Winery at the top) I'm sure that, like me, 99% of the visitors never knew that or noticed. You could get wine or pizza or donuts or cider or beer or pie and a variety of other foods from different stands and then listen to live music and hang out on the hillside with gorgeous views and hike around the lake and then head into the orchards for apple picking and it was all just a great relaxing fall afternoon with a terrific atmosphere. But now? Some sort of weird rift or feud must have happened because this year for the first time the property (properties?) are completely separated. There's a literal fence down the middle blocking the top of the hill from the bottom. When you enter, you have to drive to one of two different parking areas and from there can only access either the top (winery) part or the bottom (orchard & distillery part). If you try to cross the dirt path that divides the two "areas" a man angrily tells you to go back. When you ask what's the problem he orders you to go get your car out of the lot and drive back up (or down) and park in the other lot as if that somehow makes more sense than just walking another ten feet. If you attempt to then go down the access path to the parking area at the base of the hill, a different man yells at you for doing that too, because that section is "only for cars." In fact, cars are driving all around the property now due to this convoluted Berlin Wall they've erected. That means it's dusty and congested and the quiet, countryside feeling the place used to have is almost totally lost. I just don't get it. They took something great and made it into an absolute mess. Before we left I asked the angry man what was the point of stopping us from walking from one part of the hill to the other. He answered that they were separate businesses and that I could choose one or the other. That may be true, but I can also...
