Quality & Taste: 5/5 I came to the Johnson Estate Winery as part of a Lake Erie Wine Trail adventure with some friends. We went to several wineries throughout the weekend and Johnson was our second stop. I would say the wine itself is high quality and definitely feels luxurious and expensive.
Service & Staff: 2/5 We did not have a great service experience when we visited Johnson. First, we had to wait a while to be seated despite only two other tables in the outdoor area. Second, when we were seated, the bartender had to get us water (and take our orders) because the singular server who was working did not come to our table within 20 minutes of us sitting there. Third, when she finally came to deliver our wine (which the bartender took our order for), she knocked a glass of water onto me. I thought that perhaps she was sampling some of the wine herself. What was shocking also was that there really wasn't an apology or anything, but she did get me a towel at least.
Ambience & Atmosphere: 5/5 The inside of the building is beautiful, and the outside seating area surrounds you with the vineyard and much foliage. I could definitely see myself coming back here and enjoying another summer day.
Menu Variety & Options: 5/5 Huge variety of wine, all of which is top quality and delicious. One of my favorite things was the charcuterie board that we got as a snack along with the wine. First, the thing was massive! I wish I took a picture. With 4 of us eating it, we all felt pretty full after snacking. It had a huge amount of variety, too, from cured meats, fruits, nuts, cheeses, it had something for everyone on it.
Value for Money: 4/5 My group tried multiple samplers, which were $15 each and came with 3-4 samples, which felt like an all right. We went through 2 of them during our time there and felt that we received a good value. The charcuterie board we got was $30 and that was fantastic and worth...
Read moreJohnson Estate has the best wine out of dozens of northern wineries we've visited across Ohio, New York & Pennsylvania. I love a wide variety of whites and roses (very dry to very sweet) and my husband likes bold, full bodied reds. We both agreed on either end that Johnson Estates have amazing wines across the spectrum. The northern states can't and don't normally produce very good reds, but we were impressed with Johnson's selection and depth of flavor. On top of the lovely wines we tasted, we were lucky to be served by the wonderful Lacie. Lacie was such a doll, she was so hospitable and fun to work with. She had accurate and helpful suggestions and pointed me in the right direction on choosing wines that'd fit my palate and tastes. She was one of our favorite parts of our trip! Lacie has a sweet, warm, bubbly, infectious demeanor and makes you want to come back again and again! We also briefly met the generational owner Jennifer and were delighted to have interacted with her. She was also kind, very involved, and knowledgeable with the wines, varietals and winemaking process. The only thing is you can't stop for a glass of wine during the winter season, you have to do a tasting or buy a bottle to take away. The tasting is very affordable and totally worth it. The bottle prices are more than reasonable. I personally really liked the dry Riesling (I normally don't prefer dry Rieslings but theirs was superior to the semi-sweet in my opinion), the newly released bubbly rose, the red ice wine, the niagara sweet wine (for having a residual sugar of 6% it really didn't taste syrupy sweet, but had a wonderfully sweet, crisp grape taste). So definitely give this place a try! Thanks so much Lacie for being awesome and making us have...
Read moreBack again, staying up here in Northeast Pa. headed to one of our favorite Winery's. Johnson Estate, upon arriving we were greeted by a snooty lady that we had never seen before. It seems we were interrupting her stocking shelves. We were quickly told that she would be with in a moment... Awesome! while half my group went to the restrooms myself and my son's best friend waited at the counter. Apparently that was the incorrect counter as miss snooty lady went behind the opposite counter and snapped that we had to move down, so we did, which we were snapped at again that it wasn't fare enough and that she would serve us down where she was standing... (mind you there was nobody there but our group of 5, of which 3 were in the restrooms). Upon arriving at the correct counter, the question was snapped at us "what can I do for you?"... Apparently, we must have done something wrong, not knowing what I just stated that when the others return we will probably have some flights of wine for tasting. Again, my mistake, promptly corrected that they don't do flights, they do "tasting". Oops, my bad... thank god my wife and the other returned at this point. Fairly disgusted at this point I stepped back and removed myself from the festivities. My wife as well as the others that we were running around this wine country were drilled and corrected at every turn. Real miserable time today, sorry to say. Thanks Johnson Estates! Real shame that two of those dejected today were two 21yr old's as well as a 22yr old, my wife and I in our early 50's. Yep taking the younger crowd around for the experience (at their request). I guess we are just not snobby enough for you winery. The youngers loved everywhere else we...
