This is the ideal starting point for anyone visiting Whiteface. With the addition of the Notch lift a few years ago, Bears Den is now the easiest way to get on the slopes quickly. Even on a busy day, very few non-begginers start there day here. There was never a line longer than 2 to 3 people. Parking is abundant and a shorter walk to the snow. If you want to warm up the legs, easy terrain is exclusively found in this area OR if you want to immediately move up the mountain, you can do that by catching an additional lift (OR skiing down to the base lodge where you will see long lines in the morning.) You likely won't use this side of the mountain for too long if you are an intermediate or above, but it's a great way to start the morning without any lines. Upon registering at the trail head, you will see a sign that has a map of the trails. Make sure to study it before following the trail up to the summit. The trail starts out flat before becoming steep. No views until you reach the summit. If you are a beginner I wouldn’t suggest this hike.
