The Cloudsplitter Gondola at Whiteface Mountain is an incredible experience! The ride up takes about 15 minutes and offers breathtaking views the entire way. The gondolas are comfortable, easily fitting four adults, and can squeeze in up to six or even eight.
At the top, the viewing platform is fantastic with panoramic descriptions pointing out surrounding mountains and lakes. There’s also a short hike to a nearby peak that involves a little rock scrambling but makes for a fun and rewarding adventure. We spent about 30–45 minutes exploring at the top, though keep in mind there are no restrooms or facilities up there.
Back at the base, there’s a BBQ food truck, a small store, and restrooms available. We went on a weekday in September and had no wait at all. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. While it may feel a little pricey compared to some activities, the views and experience are absolutely worth it. A must-do if you’re...
Read moreDecent experience, but be aware of what you are paying for. This gondola doesn’t go to the summit of Whiteface Mountain - this is an 14 minute ride to the top of Little Whiteface, which is considerably lower than Whiteface itself. There is a small lookout to walk around on, but 20 minutes here is all you’ll need. What is worth the $100US for a family of 4 is then going on from here to hike to the summit of Whiteface. You need to be prepared with sensible shoes and water - and of course a summit snack. Rookie but relatively fit hikers can expect 1.5 hour, 1000 ft rise to the top following a fairly well marked trail. Some portions are fitted with ropes to hang on to on during the steep single track inclines, with some over 45 degrees. The views from the hike are far superior to the lookout on little Whiteface. Perfect for the novice hiker looking for a little adventure and challenge while still being safe. Not for...
Read moreAwesome ride to the top of little whiteface and down again. Each way takes about 20 minutes and was $30 pp each. Views from the top are beautiful on a clear day. You would need to drive to the top of whiteface to be higher. (Fyi, They did offer a shuttle from the ski resort for $15pp for them to drive you ( varied times available) if you don't want to drive your own car.) They are doing construction work at the top and the hiking trails are closed at this time. I do wish the windows in the gondola weren't so scuffed and scratched up for better views. It was nice to do it. Especially because the last time we were here we were on the open chairlift to the top. That was actually more thrilling than the gondola currently. But seeing how that doesn't exist anymore, the gondola was a great...
