The Park. We visited the Sunday after 4th of July. Lot 5 was an absolute disaster. There was a giant trash container where they dump the trash from the smaller green containers.. and it was overflowing. So we moved a little further up the slope and there was a normal sized green dumpster that was closed, but smelled to high hell. We waved down a worker in the park truck, he stated trash was not his job and he didnt know when it's going to be collected. (It was never collected).
The bathroom. Sigh. FILTHY AND SMELLED OF STALE URINE. 5 stalls, one was locked. So 4 stalls. We called to see if someone could clean it. Someone came.. however.. she got out her truck, drank from the fountain, got back in her truck and left.. maybe she didn't know she was sent there bc of a call and so didn't realize we were all there basically waiting for it to be cleaned. So we called again. She returned upset demanding to know who called. One of us walked with her to show her why we called, and she angrily stated she cleaned at 7:00am (it was now 9:45am). We asked about the muddy, wet floors, we showed her the disgusting pad someone left in the toilet that wouldn't flush, the pee-filled toilet with wads and wads of paper in it that couldn't flush, and the one that was simply locked. She said toilets weren't her job and locked the ones we pointed out.. bringing the total to 2 usable stalls. And she said she wasnt going to clean the floor bc "it's not her fault people walk on it and it's just going to get dirty again". Seriously? In her defense, or maybe someone else did it, a few hours later, the floor was cleaned and the toilets were restored. The smell remained.
The pool. Huge. Beautiful. 8 lifeguards, attentive. 1 foot (kiddie section) smelled of stagnant urine. My brother said that smell was not an issue in the deeper sections.
We've been going to Sunken Meadow State Park for years, and these have never been issues. They have trash receptacles throughout the park and provided bags and drove around collecting trash all day! If they had dumpsters, I never saw them. The bathrooms there are PRISTINE, well-lit, and we'll tended to. You will see workers mopping, cleaning stalls, mirrors, etc throughout the day, and it never smelled. Maybe I'm used to the standard they set there, idk, I just know I'm not ever returning to...

Read moreI was at the park this past Saturday and I entered the park from the Rt. 202 entrance and stopped at the main office and paid for entrance to the park. In full view of the employees my propane grill was loaded on the back of a pick-up truck and no one said anything about it. After parking the vehicles we unloaded and began setting up. Suddenly a maintenance vehicle pulls up nearby and a park employee ( later identified as Fred) approached my group and said to us you cannot use propane here you must leave the park purchase charcoal and pay to re-enter. He assumed three Hispanic men setting up early didn’t pay to enter the park. I stopped him immediately and informed him we paid our fee and that we have been setting up a propane grill for the last six years and not one person objected to not even park rangers who patrol the park have seen us in the same spot every year since we started this yearly get together. It’s shameful that the park supervisor doesn’t see any fault in how his employee selectively enforced a rarely if ever enforced rule of no propane which I was unaware of. And to boot the party next to me used a Coleman propane grill in full view of park employees and nothing was said to them. I also made Bob Guarino who is in charge aware of the conduct of his employees and was rebuffed as irrelevant. I will continue to fight for what is right at the next level and beyond. P.S. I have...
