This hike is straight out of a Jurassic Park movie. You will encounter a ton of different insects, snails and plant life. Some of the plants are not friendly. Go counterclockwise! The steep incline is better going up than coming down. However this is a difficult hike, especially after a rainy day when the rocks are slippery and the dirt turns to mud. We all took a fall all the way to the ground on this one. What makes it hard is having to watch your step 95% of the time or you will wipe out. However if you do the full 12 mile loop, definitely make a quick detour to Sycamore Falls and Ravens Point. Adds on about 1 mile but completely worth it. The falls are a popular swimming spot and the overlook is amazing. Great spot to sit down, eat lunch and take in the view. Surprisingly this hike wasn’t busy at all when we did it on a Sunday morning. Took us about 7 hours to complete it with a 30 minute lunch break and a quick swim in the falls. There’s a restroom and a water fountain at the trailhead. Great challenging trail in the south with several waterfalls and an...
Read moreSecond time I’ve done the hike but did the strenuous side this time. Starting from the Grundy forest parking, next to fiery gizzard trail, to ravens point, than back up the right side to parking on the dog hole trail side was 9 miles. Took around 6 hours with 1 hour of that being break times.
Stuff to keep in the back of your mind. The fiery gizzard trail can be dangerous if it’s rained the previous day. Everything was wet and slippery and we left with bruises. We are glad we went that way first cause the decline into the gorge seemed safer on the north side cause its steep and it was slippery on the south side of the trail so plan that...
Read more5 Stars My wife took me, along with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, on the Fiery Gizzard trail—and I’ve got to admit, it was a challenge. A little over 12.5 miles, and while not every part was tough, there were definitely some sections that pushed us. But let me tell you—it was 100% worth it.
The amount of natural beauty along this trail is unbelievable. Waterfalls, rock formations, overlooks, and endless scenic views made every mile memorable. If you’re even thinking about hiking it—don’t think, just go. You won’t regret it.
Highly, highly recommend this trail to anyone who loves the outdoors and is up for a...
