A simple, magical and wholesome place that will cure your melancholy and ennui, as it effervescently exudes Joie De Vivre 🏹❤️✨ if you’re feeling down, it is the perfect pick-me-up place to go for a contemplative walk or to sit down for a relaxing meditation. I have been going to Himmel park since I was a teenager, and I have had so many positive memories there! I first met the love of my life at the Himmel Park library by chance; it’s just the sort of place where auspicious things can happen ❤️❤️❤️ Not once have I felt uncomfortable or unsafe. My favorite spot to sit is on top of Hippie Hill - it’s the hill that’s between the public restrooms and the library. It used to have a sign on it that proudly proclaimed it to be “Hippie Hill,” but it cost stolen long ago. H you can see almost the whole entire park from that vantage point, making it a great location for people watching. You’ll see friends goofing around and tossing a frisbee, groups of people doing Yoga or QiGong, clubs playing pickleball on the tennis courts, people playing on the basketball courts, multiple family friendly playgrounds, exercise equipment, art students making DIY films and drawing in their sketchbooks, dog owner meetups, large parties and potlucks, people playing soccer, flying kites, having romantic picnics, you name it. There is the occasional unhoused individual sleeping in the oleanders or under park benches. But the way I see it, they are our neighbors too, and I believe that parks should be for everyone. I also used to be a lifeguard at the pool there back in 2010, I hope that they open up the pool again one day. The only thing I would change, is that all dogs should be required to be on a leash, for safety concerns. But otherwise it’s been such a positive 3rd space in my life all these years, a place that truly...
Read moreNice playground. Theres a gate in between the playground and road closer to the playground, I like that. Different options to sit around the park both close and further away. Grass right now is yellow and crunchy, not sure how it is in spring and summer. Also didn't give 5 stars because a bathroom is important and I didn't need to use it so don't know if its available, close to park or not, or if it's maintained. Some children wore masks some didnt, mine did but if others did or not it didn't bother me either way. People were nice and spaced out well. There was three separate volley ball set ups and groups of games, some picnics and people doing yoga. There is a lot of trees but also a lot of open space for things like flying kites or sports. Edit. Bathrooms are horrible, disgusting and there are always homeless people in or right outside. Which makes it an even more uncomfortable experience outside of it...
Read moreOne of my favorite midsized parks. Lots of family fun and lots of dog walkers.
This park has a small park feel but it actually quite large with various sections including large shaded grassy areas with trees, hills (great for kids to run or roll down), an area for soccer or other athletic activities, a large city pool (not open since COVID), metal works statues, various buildings, including a public library!! Each of these areas always feel like a separate park to me, contributing to the small park feel. They also have well maintained outdoor bathrooms.
Often amateur theater groups or musicians will have something going on you can stop and watch. And there are usually groups of friends doing some type of organized athletics that are fun to watch too. We often just love watching the kids and seeing people lounging on blankets or having picnics under the trees.
We love walking out dogs and picnicking at this...
