I am extremely disappointed with our recent experience at the Union, NJ YMCA, where we enrolled our son, for summer camp. Despite registering and paying, a clerical error led to us not receiving necessary camp information, resulting in our son missing the first three days.
Further aggravating the situation, food provided for our son, clearly labeled, was misplaced, leaving our son without a proper lunch meal and severely hungry after a full day at camp. When I addressed this with branch director Jessica, the conversation was defensive and dismissive, focusing on excusing staff mistakes rather than addressing the negligence that led to my son’s distress. She did not even return our Tupperware that has our son's name labeled to it. Can you please return it to us? It's his favourite and I need it back!
As a parent, I value professionalism and accountability, qualities that were sorely lacking in our interaction with this YMCA branch. We withdrew our son from the Summer camp after one day and seek other arrangements where his well-being would be a priority. We have been members for over a year and I used the facility mostly over the weekend to get the kids opportunities to swim besides their swimming lessons. The pool has closed for 3 out of my last 6 visits for random reasons. For two times, including today, it was because they don't have life guards on sites. Knowing that they are not very reliable, I even called before I leave today to make sure that the pool is open. Sure even, when we arrived one hour later, a piece of paper was stick on the glass door saying that the pool would be closed for the rest of the day. When asked, the staff confirmed that the pool was open earlier and then due to a lack of life guards, the pool got closed. This is not the first time!!! This place clearly needs better management and a more caring and capable director who can hire responsible staffs and make sure that their facility can at least stay open to serve the community!
